Hey guys, i have an ASrock H170A-X1/3.1 Mobo and some Corsair LPX288-pin 8gbx2 DDR4 2133 ram. I recently built this pc and at first when i checked the memory in the bios initially it was saying the memory was running in dual channel. Now if i have the memory in its staggered slots a1/b1 or a2/b2 The video card will not be responsive upon boot up, however if i have it installed in a single channel config such as a1/a2 or any other side by side combination it boots and runs fine. Any ideas?

Solution
Hello... 1) Any changes to hardware/BIO's in the MB, needs to be saved&exit before the new settings will take effect on next boot.
2) Memory setting changes Typically take a battery or CMOS clear/reset for the BIO's auto configuration to kick in... for a NEW memory/location setting.
PS... there are Great Girls helping here too B )

Hello... it's in your manual/PDF...
1) Un-plug PS from wall.
2) Typically you remove the MB battery and there will be a Jumper/pins to drain the cap down... about 5-10 minutes usally works.
3) UN-JUMPER MB.
4) Re-turn battery
5) set your memory stick positions prefer'd
6) plug PS into wall.
7) let MB Boot and go into BIO's.
8) if memory is reported as desired... save&exit

Thanks so much, i will try that when i get home! Another side question though, do you think that not resetting the cmos after inserting the memory into a dual channel config would cause the aforementioned issue with the graphics card not being picked up? Could it possibly be a compatibility issue with my ram, i checked the supported list for my mobo and while the exact model of my ram is not supported it was running in dual channel previously so i don't quite know what to suspect.

Hello... when your reset/clear the BIO"s... It goes to "Default settings" anything set "special" before was LOST.
So... 1) You need to first BOOT thru the MB/CPU/IGT Video connector to your monitor... that is "Default" for display with your MB.
2) SET the MB BIO's for IGT PCIe ONLY or BOTH before using it for your Display needs, Save&exit
3) Un-plug PS from wall.
4) Plug in your exterior Video card, and cable, and monitor setting with it.
5) plug PS into wall.
6) Bootup

As your fore mention question...
To the MB BIO's they are treated as two separate hardware devices and can report back if one is not active... By default your CPU/IGT will be made active and a graphic fault will NOT be reported. You can TEST all your Video Card Outputs while the computer is on to see what is active... Just be carful plugging in each time and de-power/Power, the monitor, between tests.

As TOO memory, it will TRY to set 1333, 1600 Dual channel as default, this is a safe setting to get the computer to boot... the Mem controller is on the CPU and has a Spec set for it. If the MB/CPU fails to get a sync with your memory it should NOT BOOT, and report back some way (beep code).

Reinstalling the Ram and resetting the CMOS seemed to do the trick, i just had to reboot the computer afterwards and load into the bios! Thanks for your help, back to running in dual channel again wooo.
