Question Memory will not run at full speed

Recently purchased some new memory sticks to get more than 16GB of RAM on my system. I was sure to match the manufacturer and speed, that being micron and 4800MHZ. Before I installed the RAM my computer was running the memory at 4800MHZ, however when I installed the new ram it dropped to 3600MHZ for some reason? I tried enabling XMP, as that was what I could find as a solution online, but it appears my bios does not support it. The only option under memory for overclocking is "auto".

and here is the memory in the command prompt. It does know its supposed to be 4800, but why is it running it slower?

Mixing memory at these higher speeds is basically a guessing game.

Can't really tell much about your system from these screenshots, but if it is Intel, they actually only officially support 3600 with 4 slot Boards, let alone actually having 4 sticks.

On the AMD side, I have tried to get two purchased at the same time sets to work with 4 sticks. It just doesn't work.

There are quad kits out there, but they usually stop at 5600 on the high end, and are 4800 typically. So if you return what you have, and sell the old stuff, you could get one of those instead and you might have better luck.

Other things to try would be setting the XMP profile and giving a slight boost to DRAM voltage, but that doesn't seem to do the trick any more.

Some reasons:
A) Mismatched RAM
Unless all 4 sticks come together in the same package they are NOT matched and may well not work together.

B) A great many modern motherboards cannot run the memory bus at full speed with all 4 slots filled.

Ah, so I can expect my issues to resolve if I swap back to only using two slots? And upgrading to two 16GB cards for instance?

Yes, that is preferred, could also do 2x24 or 2x32 if you really wanted.

What is make of your pc is it a prebuilt?

My PC is an alienware aurora R15 AMD. I'm pretty sure the motherboard is an E93839? At least thats whats printed on the thing

Would getting a faster one cause issues? Or would it be fine and just run it as fast as it could?

Oh, I think I figured it out! I have a 0kdr38 motherboard. Looks like I can run up to 5600 MHz. I think this answers all my questions! Thanks again everyone!

The maximum speed of XMP needs to be enabled in BIOS or AWCC. Only Dell Certified Kingston XMP memory is supported
