Hey all
About half a year ago I built my first gaming computer and honestly it just seems like every game that I try to play seventh generation (xbox360/ps3) or higher I get really annoying micro stuttering. I really can't find a way to fix it and it's really been driving me crazy. I really have no idea what would be the cause of this since I'm very new to PCs and the such. I don't know, maybe I have something configured very wrong in my bios or nvidia control panel? I feel like my computer is decently powerful so I'm pretty lost.

SPECS
Windows 7
AMD FX6300 CPU @ 3.8 GHz
Stock heatsink (about to upgrate to a 212 EVO so I can overclock my CPU to about 4.3GHz)
EVGA GTX 760 GPU
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard
8GB RAM
Can't remember the type of SSD
EVGA 600B 600W Power Supply

Kensington wired keyboard
Kensington wireless mouse
And for my monitor I'm hooked up from my GPUs HDMI port to a Vizio HDTV that I believe gets a refresh rate of 120FPS and a resolution of 1920x1080.

I would really appreciate any help I can get on this issue. I've been tweaking this PC since my birthday when I built it and I feel like this is the last major issue I have to iron out with it.
Thank you for your time.

Which games exactly are you getting stuttering.

Many of the new games such as
Far Cry 4
assassins Creed
Watchdogs

Are all having stuttering issues.
Also some games are just console made games ported badly to the PC side.
So tell me what games you are getting stuttering on.

Now you can try reinstalling your graphics driver or Updating it.
Defragmenting your HDD, computer>(HDD NAME)>right click and properties> tools. (DO NOT DE FRAGMENT AN SSD)
Also try the error checking program there in tools as well.

You can also try a program called CCleaner, which can make some more storage space on your pc and try to clean up your registry (make a backup first)

-good luck

Hey thanks for the reply. Recently I've been playing games like XCOM Enemy Unknown, Shadow Warrior, Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin, Skyrim, the new Tomb Raider, and Mound&Blade Warband. They've all had stuttering issues. I also want to add Dark Souls to the list but I understand that it's a horrible PC port but I actually got it to run very decently through tweaking the dsfix patch for a couple hours.

I largely stay away from Ubisoft games since as of recently I find them all to be mostly the same game with a different skin. Although I did play Splinter Cell Blacklist on this PC within the past couple months with very little stuttering now that I think about it.

The last time I updated my nvidia drivers was 11/18/2014 and I was having stuttering issues before and after that.

As for an HDD, I don't actually have one on this computer and everything is saved to my SSD. I also use CCleaner quite often.

"Also try the error checking program there in tools as well." I'm not quite sure what you mean by this.

Where defragging is there is an error checking option above it..

Also what are your temps while gaming, of both your cpu and gpu. Use hardwaremonitor for that.
Also try un-installing your drivers and use driver sweeper to completely remove your drivers from your registry and other area's.

Then reinstall the newest version. Also are you using V-sync on? A few people have had stuttering with V-sync for some unknown reason.

I thought you said I shouldn't defrag a SSD?

I just loaded up a match of XCOM and CPUID HWMoniter said my CPU was getting around 30C and my GPU was around 45C with max specs.

And is there any work around vsync? I thought its sole purpose was to get rid of screen tearing? Do I have to choose between stuttering and screen tearing?

I'll try Driver Sweeper but I don't exactly know how to uninstall drivers?

45 degrees is quite cool for a GTX 760.

Download a program called MSI afterburner.
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

In that program you can set the power limit on your card to maybe +40% (this does not overvolt your card, it just allows it to draw more watts) (don't touch the other sliders if you don't want to overclock your card)

Now go and play any game that you get stutters in, if you still get stutters, on the right side of MSI AB. There are some graphs

There is a graph called gpu load, when you're playing a game quickly minimise it and look at that graph. The graph should show your gpu at nearly 99% load on all games. Unless you have v-sync on.

With Driver sweeper, download it. Go to your windows control panel and un-install your drivers.
Go to your start menu and type in msconfig. In there under the tab boot, there should be an option to start in safe mode.

Restart in safe mode and open driver sweeper, in driver sweeper then you can un-install your drivers completely. type in msconfig again and un-check safe mode.

Then just reinstall the latest drivers again from the Nvidia website.
Post your results here 😉

I tried it again with a different game, this time Divinity Original Sin and my GPU was at about 60C and my CPU at 35C. After using Display Driver Uninstaller (the newer version of Driver Sweeper?) and reinstalling my drivers I'm getting the same temps and same stuttering.

Also with MIS afterburner my power is already at 100% and can only go up around 115% at the highest.
