Microphone connected but not receiving any audio, level stays at zero.

Microphone connected but not receiving any audio, level stays at zero. No microphones receive any audio and I tried re installing all the drivers but still got nothing. I have not activated windows yet but dont think that is the issue here. Is there a driver I am missing? I just built my PC yesterday and have never had issues with this before. My specs are: Z370 GAMING PLUS MOBO, Intel I7 8700k and a 960 evo m.2 ssd. Here are the screenshots of what I see. All help is appreciated because im out of ideas.

I tried both a USB microphone and an aux microphone and both don't work

Go to 'All settings' and click on 'Privacy'.
On the left pane select 'Microphone'.
Switch to ON 'Allow apps to access your microphone'
Also, from the list, check that the app you are using are allow to use the microphone.
