Microphone Will Not Work (Windows 8)

For some reason my microphone simply will not pick up any sound. The mic works on another computer, but not mine. Windows says the microphone is plugged in and detected and all working fine, but it simply doesn't work. I've been into control panel>hardware and sound>manage audio devices, says its working as default device, been to levels and tried made sure they're up. I've looked at many things on google to resolve it, ive tried them all and nothing has worked. I've updated all the drivers etc etc etc but nothing has changed. Hopefully someone here can help me. Thanks.

I have the same problem and have posted a thread of my own before. Still no answer to mine as of yet. Do you get a metallic scratching and buzzing sound when you go to :
recording devices>>highlight microphone>>properties>>levels>>microphone boost>>and increase the slider to +10, +20, and +30 dB

Yes I do get those metallic noises when I try to change microphone boost.

For some reason, the mic now works only on ONE skype account, out of 3 and ONLY when the webcam is plugged in as well.

Such ludicrous, fuck computers.
