Microsoft and IE 8

Did Microsoft do something to prevent IE8 from connecting to Microsoft.com sites? I have an old Windows XP system. Firefox can connect to microsoft.com, but IE8 cannot. I keep getting server not found messages. This means I cannot run Microsoft update to get the patch that has been recently released.

As far as i know no, it maybe an issue with configuration of IE8, that being said you should not be using Windows XP at all

Thanks. I cannot find an IE config parameter that would cause this. That is why I asked.
According to the news articles I've seen the last few days, there is a lot of XP still out there.
I only use my XP machine when I want to run software that does not work on Windows 8/10.

Thank you Scout. I did grab the patch manually using Firefox. I am still left wondering why IE8 cannot connect to Microsoft.com

they do not use it anymore for them it is obsolete like some older software from others makers .

Best security measure you can take is dump XP mate, say goodbye to that "XP-only" software. Upgrade it to newer versions.

Eventually I'll have to do just that. Might go to Linux. I have no interest in Apple products, and Microsoft has turned Windows into something I really do not care to use.
