[citation][nom]blazorthon[/nom]Metro doesn't need to succeed, only Windows 8 does for M$ to make money.[/citation]

Metro is Microsoft's way of forcing users onto the walled garden app-store model, where they decide which apps get sold, where they get a 30% cut from software sales and ad revenue from ad-supported apps. That is the main reason why Microsoft doesn't offer the option to disable Metro completely. It's so important to them that it would be a disaster for Microsoft if it fails to catch on on the desktop, and they're betting the company on its success.

[citation][nom]blazorthon[/nom]Metro is not a difficult thing to remove or work around and really[/citation]

Really? Try it on the Consumer Preview then. It was possible to disable Metro in the developer preview, but not anymore. Now you can sort of get hacks that minimize the impact of Metro, but that will last only until Microsoft can get rid of the desktop mode completely.

Besides, since you're using a laptop, you probably have no idea how useless Metro is on a proper computer, especially if you use a multi monitor setup.

Keep apologizing for Microsoft. Windows Metro will be this decade's Vista and Bob. I just hope it doesn't sink them completely, because they really got it together with Windows 7 and they should continue improving it rather than hacking their whole ecosystem in half and making everyone use an interface made for their failed mobile phones.

If there wont be an option to disable metro entirely in win 8 then it will be crap and im gonna stick to win7 64 ; ) Well soon see if win 7 will be another XP .

never liked apple but i think Steeve is laughing from the grave!

i don't understand why should i go from win 7 to 8.
can't see something i need in that list that i don't already have.

Snap???

Mobile broadband features????

realy?

Some people are already calling Windows 8 on Arm RT WART. Also, this is a good idea since most people I know don't see a point going above Windows 7 Home Premium

looks like i will be skipping this version of windows. My install of windows 98se is still good after 12 years don't need those features
i have native dos
i can blue screen the computer anytime by ejecting the cd drive while playing a dvd.
worst comes to worst i still can boot into dos and run my beloved software.

[citation][nom]Maxor127[/nom]It's about time they condensed their editions. I was expecting them to have a $300 Start Button Edition.[/citation]

No kidding. I can't believe they took away the primary way to get to your dozens of applications in one click. Do they really think that every time you want to launch another program you are going to leave the screen you are on, go back to some tile-infested mess, pick another square and then jump back to your working desktop? NUTS I TELL YA. I open and close probably 50 programs a day and often have a dozen open at any one time. Someone please tell me how Metro is going to make that easier and faster for me.... I see just the opposite. Win8 looks to be a massive failure so far.

[citation][nom]brythespy[/nom]Bullshit. GTFO with your referral links and get a job, how much would you make if I clicked it? 50cents? Pathetic...[/citation]

You responding to spam is frankly WORSE than the actual spam. And now I'm responding to say you are crazy and wasting even more people's time. Never respond to spam man, it's the LAW.

[citation][nom]dreadlokz[/nom]anything NEW/BETTER in windows 8 AT ALL for a normal Desktop user?[/citation]

Yeah, the Performance tab in the Windows 8 Task Manager is effing amazing.

But the whole point of Windows 8 is that they want to move everybody from the desktop onto Metro so they can get 30% from software sales of Metro apps (you can only install them through the Windows Store). There probably won't even be a desktop mode in Windows 9 if Metro catches on.

GOD I HATE WINDOWS 8!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a petition I can sign somewhere to get microsoft to listen? I just installed the consumer preview last night, and only played with it a lil bit last night, now tonight I came home and played with it for a couple of hours, and I absolutely "HATE" it... Not intuitive at all, no start bar, no task bar, the metro interface is garbage, no back buttons, horrible. Been supporting microsoft all these years, and I never thought I would say this, but i'd rather have an apple then metro.. Doing nothing but grinding my teeth trying to understand what is going on with this stupid interface. I hover in the upper left corner, and I see all these stupid box's, right click nothing, drag and drop and it goes into some empty space, and then dissapears....?!?!? Then half hour later I see all the apps running in the side that I was trying to look at. FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! Everytime I go into something, I have to hit the windows key to get out. Seriously hate it. MICROSOFT, What was wrong with windows 7 ?!?!? NOTHING.. Want to add a touch interface, then set it up like windows media center so you can switch between the traditional desktop and a touch interface, don't rip apart the damn taskbar and leave all the loyal supporters drowning in this garbage!!

Seriously pissed off at this crap. Please, someone tell me where I can petition this.. I seriously could design a better operating system interface in my sleep. All this is is hundreds of unorganized ugly squares all over the place in inception mode.

I'm not apologizing for M$. I also have a desktop and it makes no difference if it's a desktop of laptop. The only difference is it's a weaker computer and it has the screen built in. So tell me, why does it mater if I'm using a laptop or desktop? The only difference you specified is that the desktop might have multiple monitors. I can plug two monitors into my laptop in addition to it's integrated display and there, three monitors. I can do the same on my desktop.

[citation][nom]thefiend1[/nom]Windows 8 professional shouldnt be set to use the "Metro" look by default. Because that would be, well, professional.[/citation]

Think they toped that windows 8 server that uses metro.....

[citation][nom]molo9000[/nom]The file/disk encryption features really should be included in all versions.[/citation]
Think there are some taxes on exporting encription software as well as some limitations as to what countrys may buy them from a US company.

Is Metro still native on it, if so don't want it.
Took me 20 mins to find a gadget to enable start menu cause Microsoft kept nerfing all the downloads for them.

Win8 will be the new vista, until more people have touchscreen. did microsoft pull their head out of their rear and put the star button back in?

i also wonder , with the way most of the linux distros are becoming more user friendly and microsoft implanting their head up their rear if this will make more people look into linux distros like ubuntu or mint?

and another thought, all the people that buy new computers that are just used to the way windows was , i wonder if they will be able to downgrade back to win7.

I would be very interested to know if I could just use a Kinect sensor and a standard monitor and all the touch functions could be used without having to actually touch it...

Then it would be worth having

True, but the basic encryption should at least be an optional download for Windows if it can't be included by default. I wouldn't use it (I prefer using different encryption programs such as Truecrypt or FreeOTFE and others), but it should still be an option for those who do use it.

What is ironic is that the outdated XP and its 64-bit variant are way more friendly to tablets' low-end hardware than Win8. All MS had to do was to improve power saving and touch screen support to have a full-featured OS able to run even on smartphones.
