[citation][nom]blazorthon[/nom]Metro doesn't need to succeed, only Windows 8 does for M$ to make money.[/citation]
Metro is Microsoft's way of forcing users onto the walled garden app-store model, where they decide which apps get sold, where they get a 30% cut from software sales and ad revenue from ad-supported apps. That is the main reason why Microsoft doesn't offer the option to disable Metro completely. It's so important to them that it would be a disaster for Microsoft if it fails to catch on on the desktop, and they're betting the company on its success.

Really? Try it on the Consumer Preview then. It was possible to disable Metro in the developer preview, but not anymore. Now you can sort of get hacks that minimize the impact of Metro, but that will last only until Microsoft can get rid of the desktop mode completely.
Besides, since you're using a laptop, you probably have no idea how useless Metro is on a proper computer, especially if you use a multi monitor setup.
Keep apologizing for Microsoft. Windows Metro will be this decade's Vista and Bob. I just hope it doesn't sink them completely, because they really got it together with Windows 7 and they should continue improving it rather than hacking their whole ecosystem in half and making everyone use an interface made for their failed mobile phones.
