[citation][nom]stoogie[/nom]Windows 8 is terrible i would never touch it on a pc, it is designed for small handheld touch devices ONLY. KEEP IT THAT WAY AND MAKE WINDOWS 9 A BETTER WINDOWS 7[/citation]
What Windows 9? Windows 7 is my last MS OS. I'll make a good move after 2015 or so. No more paying to the ungrateful and insensitive companies like MS

On a related note, in a few months maybe they will be blaming all business companies for poor sales of Office 2013 Squarepants Edition.
And afterwards, they will blame all internet users for IE decline, and for poor Bing usage...

Whilst this back and forth finger pointing between MS and their OEMs is starting to look a little childish, I can kinda see their point when you compare the quality and design of the Surface tablet to anything else made by the OEMs out there.

But to the Win8 haters, I spend 95% of my time on Windows 8 in the desktop environment. what's the problem?

If people stopped looking at the Modern UI like it's a replacement of the old desktop and instead, just look at it like it's a full screen version of the start button which builds upon all of its former capabilities and features, then I really don't see what the hell the problem is. Can someone please name one thing the old start button did which the Modern UI no longer can? I'm genuinely asking because I can't seem to think of any.
The only thing that would've made me hate it would be if it affected performance. As in, if every time when you click on the Star screen box, it would pop up slower than the Start menu used to, but it doesn't do that. It's as smooth as ever so I really can't find any complaints.

From my point of view, all win8 devices, I can buy now, are too week or too pricey (sony duo 11 256GB is more then 1500 euros). I'm rare person who admire win8 but I simply don't see device I'm ready to pay for... It should be simple, i5 slate with 4GB ram and 256GB SSD for less then 1000euros. I don't see it, that is why I'm keep using old hardware with new OS...

I tried to " upgrade" to win 8 and finally gave up. I returned my disc unopened for a full refund. I think I might turn one of my machines into a hacintosh instead and the other will remain Win 7 64 pro for the foreseeable future. Microsoft really blew ths one BIGTIME!

It's MS's fault. You couldn't see or buy there stuff anywhere over the past few months and ill be darned if I'm gonna reach across my desk on the workstation to swipe my monitor. One software for all does not work as Apple already new. I think that Steve idiot should just resign. Oh yea, you can't upgrade from the " expensive" XP 64 pro only the cheaper 32 bit version and if you wanna do an upgrade to a Win 7 machine just remember every time you change or replace your sys HD you gotta install win 7 all over again and then win 8 all over again to boot!

Just crazy!
I'm keepin my money Microsoft and I'm a long time ( 25 year) Microsoft user.

"Microsoft has apparently blamed PC vendors" and "the software giant accused vendors of not producing enough enticing touchscreen tablets". Microsoft, tablets are more closer to phones than PC's, why you don't make what people and PC vendors wants??

Subsidize the cost of 10 point touchscreen monitors to the the price of non touch monitors then I will buy one touchscreen capable windows 8 desktop.

When I tried to work with Windows 8, I found myself on the same position when I tried to use a 1-button Apple mouse! ;D

I am not against evolution. But forcing all your customers to use an interface that is not designed for their PCs is not a step forward. It's a step towards a cliff. Microsoft needs to restore Aero, start bar, close application buttons and shut down button immediately. PCs are not mobile phones and we want control over them.

The problem is business strategy of MS was officially declared to be changed from providing an environment for other software developers to provide software directly to users, into providing a walled garden to ship software and its ads trough its store, only if they approve it, only if it does not compete with itself (say OpenOffice, say Mozilla and Chrome, say Dropbox).
The whole fuss with 8 is officially declaring desktop is the old way, burying it after Metro, and developing all new goodies for Metro only. Why I still have ridiculous result using large fonts or touch on Win32 API? MS lost 3 years developing for Metro declaring the purpose of killing the desktop, this is why they deserve to fail like they are doing: this week w8 market share is 2.35, last week of December it was 2.09, a ridiculous increase for the third month after the launch, neither Vista non Me did worse.
At this pace, they would fill its current market share in... 25 years!
They need to fire Ballmer and start again as a software company, not as a "devices and services" as declared, in order to get desktop users trust them again.

It is funny that Microsoft has the balls to blame PC vendors while they themselves also selling Windows 8 machine. If W8 is really that great, they would have found unprecedent success while all the other vendors fell behind. They could have filled the void other vendors fail to meet. But no, Microsoft does not have stellar sales either, and they sells their machine in limited market and few outlets. If Microsoft does not understand how to deliver a product via sales channel, they should not get into the hardware market at all. Apple, on the other hand, know how to sell their machines via retail channel, world wide. Microsoft is completely clueless compare to that. Same thing has happened when Microsoft tried to launch their own mp3 players against Apple. The mp3 players actually has good spec and good value, but Microsoft messed it up by selling it in USA and Canada. With such limited vision Microsoft will not get anywhere. Good design, bad execution sum it up for Microsoft.

They should have launched Win8 with a classic interface, then add a button that can switch easily to Metro, should customers desire that. That would have kept the desktop hardcore users happy while at the same time given the Metro interface a good try out. Quite a few of the diehards would have tried it out of curiosity alone...
Now, the only thing left is to fire Ballmer and move on.

60 million of copies of Windows 8, actually i bet only half running and most of them Steam users...gamers who thought that another bullshit in form of DX11.1 will give them better gaming performance and 2/3 of them are in order to avoid Start Screen Metro BS installed StartDock Start8 app. That is real picture.

Your future is Microsofts design , If they say you sheep need windows 8 then you sheep need windows 8, Windows 8 is an adjustment but its needed for the future of tablets , programs like Stardock make it work just like windows 7

*cough* Haiku, Alpha 4.1, try it! *cough*

What? Who said that? ;-)

Microsoft should blame themselves. They leave their loyal PC users out to dry with a crappy operating system designed for any idiot to use, they design it for touchscreen tablets. Then they drop the ball on getting tablets manufactured because the hardware specs are too high running a full OS.

What you're left with is no customers left. They should have left the start button, my documents, and my computer all under the stupid tiles overlay. Sure they give you your desktop back, but it's just not the same without those elements.

Lots of hate around here.

Anyways, back to the original complaint. MS's partners aren't making enough touch screen devices. This has already been covered a few times, and it is true, their partners aren't making nearly as many touch devices as customers want. Their partners didn't expect so many people to be interested in touch screens, and as a result, are way behind on bringing them to the market.

Personally, I have heard enough Windows 8 hate belly aching. This is a capitalist society. No one is forcing you to buy it. So please give us all a break and just shut up already.

The real reason you all are screaming so hard is that you know that no matter what, Windows 8 will be on enough PCs to alter the course of computing. You are all hitting the boards as hard as you can to see if you can actually change this. Sorry, but for every one of you out there complaining, someone else has moved on. Personally, I know several people afraid to try it, so be happy you have had some success. The problem is I also know of at least 4 people who have adjusted to itand like it. What I dont have any personal experience with is of someone trying it and giving up on it. Yes, there are some things I dont like. Organizing Metro can be a real pain. And I had to get used to location of things which still have me scratching my head. But now I know and it all works fine. I dont have a touch screen and I have learned a lot of shortcuts that I would not have known otherwise. Having done so, I am far better at knowing then any of you complainers that this really is a good OS that is at the worst of times as efficient as Windows 7, and at the best of times just puts everything else to shame.

I could go through all you complaints ad nauseum, I have done it on countless occasions. I can not tell you to like it, because like is an opinion, but what I can tell you is that all the "reasons" given to not like it just dont stack up.

I personally cant stand Windows XP any more. That stupid blue and green start bar to me is absolutely ugly. If I never have to see it again, thank goodness. This is an opinion I had originally, but I got used to it. Now that all the redeeming qualities have been stripped away and surplanted by later OSs, my dislike of the look has returned and seeing it reminds me of just how crappy slow the whole OS is.

I guess some of you may have a similar reaction to Window Metro. The look may remind you of just how confusing it feels to use. But like with my aclimation to Windows XP. Getting used to it may be worth it. 8 years from now, I may be working on Windows 11 and see an old Windows 8 machine with Metro and think, crap, glad I dont have to manually organize those darn tiles any more. But for now, the those of us who truly know it and didnt get turned off immediately can see really how much of a step up from Windows 7 it truly is. After all, as much as I hate Windows XP now, the thought of going back to Window 98 would send shivers down my spine.

Top reasons Windows 8 failed imo:
1. Metro
2. Borked key process
3. No cheap standalone purchase, you had to upgrade
4. Lack of control inside the actual operating system
5. Apps. There's nothing wrong with natively installed software, this apps business is retarded.

Why would I use Haiku over Ubuntu, Mint, OpenSUSE, or Fedora?

So all of us that dislike how Microsoft is ignoring what the consumer wants, should just quietly sit back and hand over our money to them?! I think not. The only hope for change is to vote with our wallet and let MS know we arent to fond of this new OS. Just give us options that should be there to begin with and most would be happy.

I went back to building my own computers.
Windows 2012 Server sends you to the "Windows screen" after you press a Metro button.
Laptops by Sony the VAIO S series 15 inch have IPS screens but not touch screen IPS so I didn't purchase.
Windows 8 won't run certain programs and I'm not going to fight to get BOINC Distributed Computing to run.
And the list of problems just grows...
Windows 8 is no longer a multi-tasking GUI its a android device with MS programs that don't turn off.
