Next to Windows 7-64 XP is the best OS Microsoft has come up with. Windows 8 may or may not be great I don't know. I haven't used it yet but, I do have some reservations.

I have 2-XP machines and 2-windows 7/64 machines. I don't know if Microsoft will really end support, it's not like this is the first time they've threatened that but, I really don't care that much and I also have no intention of upgrading my XP machines to anything else.

They work just fine now hooked up to my TV's and audio systems for playing content located on my win 7 PC's and I see no reason that will change.
As for anyone that still uses XP on their main PC, it's way past time to move on anyway.

I see your point but, how long should Microsoft be responsible to support XP. It's been 12yrs and certainly if they supported it for another 20 there would still be hold outs.

The longer Microsoft has to support an OS the more money they would need to charge for it.
I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for an OS and I don't want to buy an OS that isn't supported for a reasonable amount of time.

On the other hand I think 12yrs is quite reasonable. If 7 is supported that long I will be very satisfied.

So what is the plan exactly for businesses which did upgrade to a superior OS (windows 7) but listened to Microsoft and did so using Windows XP Mode for imcompatible software?
Sending them up the creek as well?

Well I can personally attest to the fact that many XP programs do work in compatibility mode and many don't.
Since Microsoft never promised anyone that everything would work I don't really know what your point is.

Any company that replaced all of their operating systems without first checking it out on a single PC is stupid anyway so again, what's your point?

Things progress and things like apps and operating systems need to be upgraded from time to time. If that's to difficult or expensive for a company then perhaps they are in the wrong business.

There is a cost to doing business and one of them is keeping your technology up to date. If you can't plan for that then maybe you need to sell your business and get a job with a company that can! :kaola:

While I agree with the win8 hate, you clearly don't use Win7 explorer much (not IE, I'm talking the file manager). Jumping folders, left not matching the right, hiding data without work to get it to show (free space, folder space etc). While renaming something it may cut you off to refresh the folder etc. Difficult to unpack (rar zip etc) to a location NOT dropping on other files due the the entire line being live basically. There is a reason Total Commander, xplorer2, xyplorer etc exist. MS can't write a file management util to save their life. They suck. XP was much better for file management. If you spend as much time as I do in this part of the OS you grow to hate it and buy a solution for $30 that REALLY gets the job done. Check out the 3 I named and you'll see how a REAL file manager should look and act.
