After some time using Windows 10, I have to say I'm happy with the upgrade. I agree, the Store was merely glanced at and then hasn't been touched again. I disabled Cortana, like most do, but not for the same reasons. The "Value" you're getting out of Windows 10 is definitely not from these Fluff apps that you're referring to.Dear Microsoft, If you want me to upgrade from my perfectly functional Windows 7 to Windows 10, you have to give me something of value in return. I don't care about Cortana and would disable it. I don't care about your "store" and "apps." I don't care about having Skype built-in. All these are fluff. I don't want Windows 10 encryption which is conditionnal on logging in with a Microsoft account... and won't work on my 4-year-old system because the mobo has no TPM.
As I made the mistake of buying Windows 7 64 Home Premium instead of Pro, here is what would make me upgrade to Windows 10 : include Bitlocker for free with Windows 10 Home. Bitlocker is the only feature that I miss with my current Windows 7 OS.
I'm using both a 7 year old i7-920 system and an older C2Q Q6600 system. I've upgraded both to Windows 10. I'm able to log in with a Microsoft Account without issue and I am not 'forced' to have encryption on. Although, for me to turn on Bitlocker I would need a TPM for these systems. Of which, as is your case, I cannot do. Thankfully, there are other applications that can encrypt your files just as easily.
