[citation][nom]aliened[/nom]one thing that I love about steam is that they don't get picky if ur buying outside the US, talking about those damn country restrictions, as simple as "if u have money u can buy it", knowing Microsoft they will surely put some kind of "special" treatment with those buying outside the US, for example I love playing my games on English, so I hate that on some Windows Live games the only expansion packs u can download are on Spanish, and not even Mexican Spanish, they are on European Spanish... and we Mexicans hate that accent, but because ur outside the US that means that ur screwed, so lets see how Microsoft treats their clients outside of US and Canada.[/citation]

Have you tried buying games outside the US? I did and it wouldn't let me. I was in europe for vacation during the E3 week whilst steam had $2 games, and I couldn't purchase them bcoz I was "in the wrong country"
Im guessing you can only buy games in the country where you're cradit card is addressed

God damit , they must blow up the party for money,
They seperated the players , by making the Xbox and Playstation ,
Are they gonna seperate PC players now ?!
Man , i hate this companies ...
Why would i have 2 accounts on two programs to play with my friends ?!
Stop it , enough with killing us "PC players".

So you're saying you prefer a world without competition?

I hope they dont screw this one up like the did with the old one. I couldnt download the DLC for GTA4 because I didnt live in the USA. The credit card part of the website refused to accept that I wasnt living in the USA and therefor I couldnt buy anything 🙁 And I WAS on the UK part of their website......

[citation][nom]Lmeow[/nom]Steam sucks. I've had so many problems. My problems with Steam? - It for some reason takes Steam around three to five minutes to connect to my account, and even longer to launch a game. What the hell? Without Steam, games would probably load up less than a minute, in total. - It forces you to download games that you have the discs for. I really do not see the point of Steam sometimes. Sure, I don't mind it as a DRM, but why do I have to download the game, and use up all my monthly bandwidth? And even worse, sometimes the games aren't available for download, despite having paid for them. If I have the disc with all the data needed for an installation, why download the game? As I said before, Steam as a DRM is understandable. But as a delivery service when you've already bought the disc? WTF?- It takes around five minutes for Steam to realise that I have no internet and have to start offline. This happens quite a lot, and gets ridiculously annoying. Seriously? My five year old cousin can tell when the internet's not working.- Steam overlay is glitched. It's a pretty cool idea, but there have been countless times where I've been stuck because I tried opening the Steam overlay. Other times I can't even use it at all, when I'm waiting for Infailty Ward's IWNet matchmaking system to find me a new game in MW2.- The 'Cancel' button when loading games or checking for updates DOES NOT WORK. Fail more?TL;DR?I hate Steam, and I very much know that many wouldn't use it if they didn't have to.[/citation]
I have 2 words for you
"USER ERROR"

I hope this does something about the current trend where PC games are put on the backburner to console release (Fable III, Mirror's Edge, etc). Steam has given me a better "keep" value than plastic DVDs. Updates, no silly CD protection, and if I slick my box or even go on another one, not much of an issue. If Microsoft wants to be successful, then they better study stuff like this.

The irony is that valve tried to get Microsoft to build steam for them originally. The didn't want to build it themselves but no one else would partner with them and do it.

Microsoft just wants a piece of the pie that someone else created.

nothing against MS, but i can't trust MS will keep the server up after 10 years or when sales goes down. if MS decom server it mean all my $$$ goes to waste. at least steam up for all those years and going strong.
and with all those weekend and mid weekday sales, i able to pickup lots of good old games with 66% discount(i use GoG too but their selection rather.. limited). unless MS welling to do those weekend discount sale i think i will skip it.

more competition? more games for me at better prices
here's hoping MS can convince several developers to launch both for the 360 and the PC, might be shooting their own feet business-wise but I'd love to be able to play MNC or Castle Crashers on my PC

If Microsoft start bringing their big name games over to GFWL from the XBOX like Gears of War 2/3 and Halo 3/Reach, then they would be off to a good start. If they could get a few console only developers to start making PC games, they could start to really hurt Steam. I would love for games like Ninja Gaiden/Dead or Alive/Project Gotham/Final Fantasy series(not the MMO) and many more to start popping up on PC. This is really the only way I could ever see GFWL ever getting to the level that Steam is at.

I use both and never had issues with either system, but in the end it comes down to the games. I will say one thing though...atleast GFWL has a built in "high quality" voice chat system for all the games, but something has to be done to deal with cheaters. Maybe once the GFWL system is more mature they will start handing out bans like they do on the 360. Feedback/avoid player/CD key ban system(for repeat offenders) would be very nice to deal with the baddies. lol.

here is an interview with product manager Peter Orullian.

From what I've read MS is deciding what games to place on it's store in what it thinks we like. There is no incentive for any gamer to buy from MS when you can get the same game at Steam. New titles won't be discounted but steam will offer the user additional content/ or a free game when purchased through them. MS has a limited inventory and I wouldn't trust them.

I, for one, hope they succeed. I'd really like to be able to merge my Live account so I can have my achievements and friends on both Windows and Xbox games. And a little competition to Steam couldn't hurt the consumers either!

Interesting, will the games sold through M$ require the Games For Windows logo? If so, this will greatly reduce their sales cap to only A-list publishers since it's expensive to get GFW certified. Indie gamers will be left out.

haha noob.. the problem exist between the pc and the chair...

The only reservation is I have is that Microsoft could use its position in the market to force game development studios away from Steam.

As a company, Valve (the maker of Steam), has always been pro PC gamer and often gives freebies to its loyal fans. Microsoft, on the other hand, is always interested in making as much money as possible. For example, Valve had wanted to provide free downloadable content to xbox clients through xbox live the same way they do for pc clients of its games. Microsoft refused to allow this, since MS gets a cut of every sale and thus would rather see developers charge as much as possible.

Yes, competition is good. But I don't think fair competition is what Microsoft has in mind.

[citation][nom]rocky1234[/nom]This is all good & all but they sure had better still have the DVD or blu ray versions as well. Call me old fashioned but I like to have the game & box in my hand. I also do not want to have to wait 2 hours every time I have to reinstall a game because of a windows wipe & reload. Steam works fairly well but it sure is annoying to have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for it to do updates to the installed games before being able to play a game. When I first got CODMW2 I had to wait 2 hours before being able to play it & I owned the DVD version but because at the time steam was having problems it would not let me play my new game until they got their servers back up & running. I almost returned the game & said frack it but just as I was ready to give up it told me starting game updates now & then had to wait about 5 more minutes before playing it. Maybe this was just a bad Exp for me on that game but it sure makes online crap like that look bad. The thing that got me is it did not state that the game was attached to steam if it had I most likely would not have bought it because I would have wanted to avoid problems like I had with the game.[/citation]

People are so impatient these days, go take a walk, do some chores, or see a movie, come back, game's ready. This distribution method is still fairly new and really being bottlenecked more by lousy US ISPs preventing faster connections. In the future when your connection is much faster, that game will take 5 minutes to get. Then what? And you're also complaining about the update time? If you want an updated game, you're going to be waiting regardless of whether the game is digital or on disc.
I can see the purpose of some people wanting the box to show, digital distro does feel a bit...empty, but if you want the physical media because you feel you have a "safe" copy of the game, it's a lot more likely that your disc will get scratched/lost/stolen than it is for Steam to suddenly shut down and disallow you access to your purchased product. Wipe after wipe, I know where my games are.

But yeah, try getting yourself a piece of the pie Microsoft, the thing about Steam is that it's already established as the leader of digital distro. Offer exclusive content or there's no reason for people to turn to you. (You have several options for media outlets, Windows, WP7, XBox...it'd be nice to buy one license and have it work for all of those)

This is good news, more distributions the better, while i doubt microsoft will sell cheaper then steam, what i'm really interest in is possibly being able to play with xbox users. It'll probably never happen but i'm really one of the few people i know that games on PC there are tons on xbox so if i could join in that would be great.

Well obviously if you are on ancient dial up or dsl or the economy cable package you wont want to be downloading games.

But when you stop living in the dark ages and get a modern internet connection, it is awesome. You complain about waiting for downloads after a windows reinstall instead of getting it off the disk. I on the otherhand love the downloads! Because if I had to reinstall windows (Which I havent since XP, GO VISTA!) all I would have to do is load up steam, and it would download, install, and update all my games. And with my modern internet connection, it only takes about 20-30min per game. Which is probably how long it will take for all those Windows updates to get applied.

"With Games for Windows Marketplace, we set out to create a digital store built for PC gamers end-to-end," said Kevin Unangst, senior global director, PC and Mobile Gaming, at Microsoft. "And by integrating with our existing Xbox Live and Windows Live services, we've made it easier than ever for millions of gamers to see for themselves how easy buying PC games can be."

.....we already know how easy it can be....we've had Steam/D2D for years now.

How come Microsoft always has to have a "me too" mentality. Why can't they pioneer anything, especially in the PC/PC gaming market.
