I would say that it includes OEM computer sales and OEM trade up coupons from Vista for machines purchased last year before the release also. Plus Microsoft has always been known for stuffing the channel and counts all of those copies sent into the channel as sold. Which I guess they are in a way, just not by an end user. Most Wal-mart, Target and Best Buy stores probably have 5-10 copies minimum on the shelf. Still that is a huge number to hit so fast, so good for them. With over a billion computers supposedly in use around the world that's only like 5-6% of all computers so far but it is a good start.

The rich get richer because they know the rules and work with it. The poor get poorer because they don't know what the rules are.

Not for long...as the liberals and democrats will spend more of the middle-class's money to make SURE the poor live...more like middle class.

about time! i hope Windows 8 is at least semi revolutionary maybe a fresh note pad with linux and all the problems of the past in mind. Maybe design some Artificial Intelligence into it when dealing with interfacing with hardware that's out dated. able to probe an create generic drivers for legacy devices on the fly with some smart programing. Able to learn from a different stand point to fix software to hardware or soft to soft problems by not crashing out the kernel and the AI.

LOL.... uh, your funny. If you actually cared to do research, you'd know that since Reagan, every republican president has SPENT the most money and put us in debt. Uh, remember, Clinton had a surplus. GOP has been in power for 8 years... really good track record there buddy.

What, you thought the Iraq war based on lies that cost the lives of 5000+ Americans was free? We've borrowed money from China to pay for the war in Iraq... how retarded is that? And China is lending less and less money... Yeah, Communist China is keeping the US afloat and that is sick.

Economic policies that the government passes take a few years to make an impact... so the whole "this president had surplus and that president had debt" doesn't really make a ton of sense. Arguing on the actual programs or economic decisions themselves is a measurable argument because you can see the outcome of each individually.

Truth is... the U.S. is in waaayyy too much debt, and our current policies that are being passed will only push us further down. Sometimes I wonder if our government now assumes that we will be less likely to be targeted if we destroy ourselves instead 😛

The thing is this not only means a big success on the OS part. There are a lot of people buying new PCs and just to give you guys an idea the latest numbers show that in the gamer side the latest game centric surveys show that more than half of the computers surveyed already have DirectX 10 capable graphics card. A great sign that developers can make the jump.

Awesome deal, I can't wait to load it this summer when I get that free time to do a full install. If only consumers could adopt x64 platform too.

Disclaimer: Libertarian, so I think both you elephants and donkeys are full of it. Anyway...

Statements like this just drive me nuts. Right now, if one was to watch fair and balanced coverage, you'd hear that the deficit problems right now are all Obama's fault but anything good during the Clinton years were because "economic policies take time to implement". So the good stuff during the end of the Clinton years was merely the delayed results of Reagan's policies but the current bad stuff is Obama and not Bush. So, if I understand it correctly, if something good happens with the deficit it's republicans, but if it's bad it's democrats regardless of when or what actually happens. Reminds me of John Oliver's bit on "Terror-Ball".

Anyway, good for MS, I like win 7. I get a little grumpy sometimes when I try to find something in the Control Panel, luckily I know how to access most anything using Run...

That will be short lived. now that the discontinued the family pack the number will slow down greatly. If only they had warned people.

Huh? You know that this is an informative article on the sale of Microsoft's latest Operating System, right? You know that Microsoft's last OS didn't do as well as their one before that, right?

I guess in the end, I'm asking: "WTF are you talking about?"
