1 - why is Quote function not working anymore in Chrome? (bug on my end?)

2 - Real computers users will still eventually end up on Linux. (I'm not full time Linux, yet)

3 - "9" in Japanese = death... Win8 already has put the platform on life-support.

4 - I still see no future need for the Windows platform... MS did it WRONG in 8 and showed how panicked they are about having about 20% of the OS market nowadays. People like my wife, gets by with her Android phone pretty good. And for actual desktop work? Its LinuxMint on a notebook, that had Windows 8 on it... So bad, that Linux was by far, easier to figure out and use. Many of my clients have dumped having Windows PCs for their every-day uses... gone to iOS phones and tablets or Android.

5 - The only primary function of Windows... is to launch MS-Office and TurboTax... oh and Adobe products. Games? Game Developers are focused on consoles, including Microsoft! Check out those Xbone Exclusives... that are NOT for MS-Windows. I bought Gears of War for PC... I would have bought 2~3 as well.

6 - Games PT2: More titles for traction for the PS4. Its slicker, its smaller (not like some 80's VCR such as the Xbone)... only reason its selling pretty good know is the $330 price.... but many people are still NOT buying it. I'll buy the PS4 over an Xb1 any day at any price.

7 - Microsoft listened to people when they made WIN7. They made 8 without any input... and ignored all the warnings from people... who were more qualified. They had more than 6 months to fix Windows8... but gave us the finger. The $40 Win8Pro upgrade wasn't worth $1 to most of us.

Even today, I and others build and sell Windows 7 computers to our clients.

8 - Is there a single finger gesture in Win 10?

9 - So far, I see little to no valuer in Windows 10. Lets see... Its Windows 8 with its crappy 80's puke flat UI with a Start-like-menu function added that is mostly done right. I think it could be better... but I already posted that a long time ago. There should be a user optional METRO launcher on the left side that would actually make METRO **USABLE**. If its hidden, then its live-titles = useless. It should be docked.

The UI skin in the last Win8 preview was quite nice. It was kind of like what Google has today. (ironic) - which was semi-flat. It looked nicer than Win7... but then they wen't full retard.

10 - I will try Win10 preview some day... but IMHO... its too little, too late. Windows 7 is good for another 5 years... Maybe MS will give users SKIN options (you know, like Linux) and maybe Windows 15 will fix all the past problems by then? Maybe Window 18 will be black and white?

Maybe... the world doesn't give a crap anymore.

Wow.....I am running Windows 8.1 Pro on one of my desktops with Start8 - functionality and stability is as good as Windows 7 - if not better. The rocky start was drivers for hardware - now that everyone has caught up, the issues aren't there. I never use the "metro" or "modern" interface, unless on a tablet or phone....if you have a keyboard and mouse, the metro/modern interface is a waste of time. On a tablet/phone - it is a great interface.

I have tested Ubuntu, Mint and other Unix builds - the problem - it isn't as refined as MAC OS or Windows (Vista/7/8/10), and given that 10 is in preview only....that says a lot. Simple things....like Lightshot (screen shot tool) doesn't work in Linux of any flavor.

Windows is going to be around for quite a while....They lead the industry in installs - there is a reason for that.

I wasn't impressed by W8, so i decided to get into Linux. Still need to switch, haven't had a chance yet but definitely within a few years before MS throws the killswitch on W7 i'm going to put Linux on and i can virtualbox whatever Windows version. The nice thing is i can switch from Linux to Windows with a designated button on the keyboard, to me that's far better and it's a good way to encourage users to get used to Linux. I will say if W10 does offer native virtual OS's (i don't quite remember whether it was dual desktop stations or virtual software) at least those who are not willing to make the leap towards Linux may get to try it out like you can with Linux virtualboxing Windows.

@ronintexas:
Yes yes... MS owns the desktop market. I did NOT say desktop OS market share, did I?

When a person buy and uses their PHONE as THEIR computer vs a Desktop PC with Windows. It means the market switched from Windows to Android (or iOS).

The number of people buying PCs is going DOWN. Notice the companies going bankrupt? HP wants out of the PC business. There is simply very little profit selling a $300 laptop at walmart. My clients, my friends, people I know have switched from desktop PCs for the internet needs to phones and tablets.

Android and iOS does what most people need... facebook, messaging, porn, web browsing.
My wife is a typical example: Lets say in the past 30 days, this is her computing usage:
99+% on her Android phone.
0.5% on our iPad (bigger screen).
0.5% filling out forms for a state site.

Her phone is almost 2 years old... she wants a newer phone. I'm not replacing ANY of my PCs any time soon... they all work fine with Windows 7 with what they do. Windows 8 or 10 adds NO value to my time or money to bother with.

But we're buying new cell phones in 2015.. THAT is going to happen as well as a PS4 or two vs building another gaming rig. Samsung and Apple knows this... and guess what, so does Microsoft and intel.

Even intel is crapping their pants, trying to get market share in mobile devices. What is the real performance difference between the I5-3500 / 3570 / 4670? Not much... about 10% over a 4 year period!
Here: http://www.ocaholic.ch/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=1158&page=6
(Its 10% at 1024... but 3% spread at 1080p - and that is with ALL games OC or stock speed)

Intel destroyed AMD with their CORE 2 CPUs... so badly that AMD never caught up.
And without competition, market and demand for FASTER CPUs... intel isn't doing much anymore... and nobody really cared when the i5-5000 series comes out... unless its 25%+ faster than the i5-4690 at the same price... maybe. What makes news? iPhones and Galaxy phones which are approaching the performance of a typical entry-level PC. And this is why Windows Desktop OS doesn't matter much anymore. Any PC made in the past 5 years will run MS-Office just fine... Making the PC 25% faster isn't going to make that worker type up a report any faster.

And the world is figuring that out... hence, MS is doing a lot of work to get their mobile working before their desktop market collapses.

PS: scroll to the bottom of that link you posted. Look what OS is used in SUPER COMPUTERS.... hint: Its not MS and it starts with the letter "L".

So.. as it stands... The Windows OS (XP-7-8-Mobile) market share is about 20% and dropping.

I have installed WIndows 10 Technical Preview Build 9841. Every time I try to upgrade to the new build 9879, it completes the upgrade, restarts my laptop and says "Restoring to your previous version of Windows" and after restart, I get the following message - " We could not install Windows Technical Preview" with error code "0xC1900101 – 0x2000C". Mine is a Dell inspiron 14R laptop with i5 processor - 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD. Any help is appreciated in this regard.

Vijay.
