Apparently you arent allowed to like Windows 8 around here. Its turning into one huge circlejerk on here. Almost feels like Reddit.

Meh, whatever. I plan on keeping an open mind about it. Thumb me down all you want. I care not.

[citation][nom]gm0n3y[/nom]I don't get why people have such a hate on for Windows 8 because of Metro. Just switch to the Win 7 GUI. Sort of like how in XP I would disable themes. I don't really care much about GUI changes like that anyway, I just want it to be faster / less bloated, stable, and any features like better file transfers etc are just an added bonus.[/citation]
The problem with the Win8 GUI is it's functionality, usefulness and overall productiveness. It's obvious the GUI is made for a Touch enviorment, not a desktop enviorment, which is what Windows is meant for. If Microsoft wanteda Tablet/Touch OS, then they would have a better chance with a spinoff or new OS made for that niche. From my eyes, Microsoft is shooting itself in the foot by focusing more on trends than what Windows is used and made for.

If I didnt get MS OS for free I would pass on Windows 8. So far it simply appears to be Windows 7 with Metro UI sprinkled on top. IE 10 is no big deal and unless MS decides to once again force users to upgrade because of a major function only had with Win 8 then I dont see it selling quickly.

[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]if you haven't used it then how can you say you don't like it? just sayin'[/citation]
I never said I don't like it. I just switched to 7 and I like it very much so I'm in no hurry to switch to 8. Besides, knowing Microsoft's OS cycle (good, crap, good, crap, etc.), I think I'll stick to 7.

Change installation process should fix this hate issue.
Allow a bullet for this computer uses a touchscreen...when selected install all that crap.
If not, this is a corporate build and load just a plain desktop please.

End of story.

transition between metro and desktop is still rough, badly blend. i dont think metro application is about productivity, you mostly need desktop to do the real work. i cant imagine aplication with alot of icon/toolbar done with metro ui. well ,, just lets the time roll... to find out what would this 8 be... great or suck.

[citation][nom]jaquith[/nom]Windows history: 98SE (fine) -> ME (crap) -> XP (fine) -> Vista (crap) -> 7 (fine) -> 8 (??). Need I suggest any more?! My Windows 7 is just fine thank you![/citation]
How about Windows 95 was it crap?

Win 8's main purpose is for mobile computing. I doubt it will matter much on the PC.

I'd also say Win 3.1 and Win 95 were good, and you also forgot NT (although this was more of an enterprise OS). Vista wasn't exactly crap either, but it required way more RAM than the average PC had, which made it crap to the average user. Win 8 will not have that issue, but again, it's targeting mobile products.

Shush!!! Stop talking sense, people don't get it, allow people their narrow minded opinions, they have just as much right to be bigoted MS hating pinheads as you do.
...
If you try and tell these people that you can just alternate between Metro and Aero there may be mass hysteria, for the good of public ignorance I think you need to be detained under the Patriot Act.
...
Hush!

[citation][nom]wetsa[/nom]So how do you shut down in Aero?[/citation]
The same way you shutdown Vista without Aero on, or did you mean to say, how do you shut down Aero? Just right click the desktop and click on "personalize" then choose a theme without Aero. There are other methods to turn it off, but that seems to be the easiest. (I had a shortcut to instantly shut it down without a theme change, but I haven't had to turn it off since I had 6GB of ram).

[citation][nom]wetsa[/nom]Nup, no start button.[/citation]
If you are trying to just shut down atm, you can always ctrl-alt-del and shut down, there is also the windows key on most windows keyboards, alt-F4 also shutsdown all previous windows OS's and you might try right clicking the desktop for another option.
