Agree. I spent MANY hours on AoE, AoE2, AoM, and (to a lesser extent) AoE3. They were truly great games.

Then AoE: Online, which was alright, but not nearly as good as the old games. Granted it was MUCH better than Microsoft's other free-to-play adventure known as Flight, but still didn't have the same quality as the earlier AoE games.

You just cant take former AAA titles and make them free-to-play and expect the majority of the old player-base to stick around. Seeing the same thing with Mechwarrior as well. Kinda depressing.

What about AOE3?!? I just started playing it last month and can't get enough of it. A deep, strategic, skilled and tactical game. I do wish it had some things AOM had but the options and variables are just extraordinary in AOE3. Steam has it on sale from time to time. Worth checking out.

I disagree. Every game that implements microtransactions on a large scale has gone down the drain.

Microtransactions may provide enough revenue for flash studios that make their money off of cow clickers but they do not provide enough revenue for MMORPGs which are typically tailored towards gamers which are adverse to paying for anything unless they have to.

The notion that 'subscription based games are dead' is a load of crap. EVE Online, Asheron's Call, and Ultima Online are still on subscription models more than a decade after each was released. Everquest only recently became Free to Play.

It seems like every MMO released in the past 8 years has been little more than a tired WoW clone so it's no wonder they don't last long. It's not possible to beat WoW by being WoW, they must be better than WoW.

Only reason i tried it was because the graphics reminded me of AOM, (AOE3 graphics was shyt) and i was hoping for more of a fun gameplay like AOM was.

Sadly tho, the stupid grind was just awful, the game lacked the micro managment i was so used to from AOM, making tactical fights allmoast impossible, and i just do not care if my home city looks great or not. srsly i do not give a fudge if i have flowers that decorate my town hall.

Sadly tho, Ensamble is no more, and what we get is a Name of a game that will be forgotten... Just like Freelancer (fu Microsoft)

Maybe that moan should be directed at the people who create drivers for the card, like AMD
...
Also, try Windows 8, some of my buggy games seem to have worked out the glitches, there is a section of the map for UT04 Forest of Tokaru that has a hole in the map you can fall through, sure it's in mid-air near the edge, way up in the air - but with lowgrav and quad jump you can sometimes accidentally hit it, that hole is not there anymore since I did my upgrade

I wish they would make a newer Age of Empires 2, leave the game and everything the same but upgrade the graphics! Maybe some physics too 😉

Maybe you are right, perhaps this is a precursor to a sequel

I admit i would LOVE to see some of the older games remade/upgraded graphics. Like Age of Empires (NOT a crappy online only thing). BATTLEZONE, thief, Mech warrior, and many others. I would pay them in a heartbeat.
