Question Microsoft Teams Updater startup app entry corrupted?

Hi, I have two questions.

I have the new Microsoft Teams installed on all my PCs but on one of them I had a few problems so re-downloaded and now I note that I have an entry in startup called ‘Microsoft Teams Updater’ which isn’t on any other PC. Is that an issue? Or could it just be because of the way it installed again?

Also, if I uninstall Teams on that PC the entry for the Teams Updater breaks and shows the following:

I have re-installed Teams and the entry works again, but if I ever remove Teams permanently I would like to know if I need to remove the broken entry, does it affect my system to leave it there & how to remove the broken startup entry alongside my previous question.

Thanks guys.

If I understand the link correctly, Windows is still trying to load/launch Teams Updater and is missing a required registry key.

However, the link's wording is confusing.

How was Teams uninstalled? Formal uninstall process or just a deletion of the .exe file?

Look in Task Manager > Startup to see if there is an entry for Teams Updater. If there is an entry, then try disabling it.

Also check Task Scheduler. There may be some rule/trigger in place that launches Teams Updater (or tries to) which, in turn, fails due the missing registry key.

Do not attempt to edit the registry.

Many apps, when uninstalled, leave Registry keys, etc.. "behind" and are generally harmless. Best left alone.

More needs to be known.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Teams was uninstalled from the start menu, Teams, right hand click and then uninstall.

Yes, there is an entry and I’ve disabled it - it just shows in startup apps still with the broken registry link.

Okay, I’ll leave it alone. I wasn’t sure why on one PC Teams Updater is there and on another it isn’t.

Here is some more information when I click on the path:

Do you think it’s genuine? I downloaded Teams from the official website and the Updater installed but as soon as I uninstall Teams the registry entry isn’t deleted.
