Considering the slow uptake of Windows 7 at first after the issues with Vista and the desperately cheap upgrades Microsoft have been offering It's not all that surprising that its comparable to Windows 7 in what was probably its slowest sales period.

I do however highly doubt Windows 8 will ever reach a decent market saturation.

I brought two copies of Windows 8 and i am not running it so Microsoft claims means shit. All they care is how much they sell. Yet i have to find someone running Windows 8.

Face it Metro is going to rule the world! When I say Metro, you say HO! METRO! HO! When I say Metro, you say HO! METRO! METRO! HO!

Metro is the best, it kills all the rest, so don't diss the Windows 8 crest!
Metro is in, going for the win, dispatching Linux to the bin!

When I say Metro, you say HO! METRO! METRO! HO!

Linux is dead, Metro is ahead, anyone who disagrees has a fat head!
Metro is better than life itself, put that Linux back on the shelf!

When I say Metro, you say HO! METRO! METRO! HO!

HOOORAY FOR METRO! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

revenue increased by the lowest percentage after a major win release, and profit dropped for the firt time after a major win release.
60 m licenses sold are in the pipeline of unsold pcs, not upgrades, as the low market share, 1/2 than Vista at the same point, clearly shows: thats why they had to cut production of surface, that's why its minion are failing as Dell, that's why profitable companies are now the ones jumping on Android market, or investing on Ubuntu and ChromeOS, or producing components for Apple.
Why on erath one should buy a win8 machine now?
For the huge amount of free software produced and distributed by independent developers not needing the strict approval of the big apple or google brother? Microsoft declared the point of 8 is to kill this software market and being just anoter Store based platform!
For the low prices due mass economy scale and competition between oems? Ms declared the point of 8 is killing that market and to become a device company!
Get real, there is a lot of half thruts and half baked ideas in W8 market strategy, but the two main pillars are the crazy attempt to kill the major sale advantage of Windows platforms itself!
That's why they are epically failing.

i feel sorry for all you windows 8 haters because change can be hard for some people, look at those who still use windows xp stuck way back in the past lol, nah really windows 8 is not the pig people try and make it out to be, i upgraded 4 home pc's, no disrespect to my mate (because he's a bit backwards) and not to far from being a nightmare lol but even he can get his head wrapped around windows 8, my six year old daughter she can use windows 8 so how hard can it be?? i upgraded because of how cheap the os was (and im glad i did now)... but in the same breath if i was using windows 7 now and wanted to upgrade to windows 8 i could not afford to, but if money was not the issue then yea i still would upgrade. all i can say is dont hate me for like'n something you dont lol

Those numbers would/could say something IF Windows 7 was NOT build by Microsoft. But there's no healthy competition here!

You can absolutely twist the truth by: (i) Force OEMs sell Windows8 machines (it's obvious that most new laptops have Win8), (ii) by not taking in account the size of the market when Windows Vista were released and (iii) by not taking an account all those Windows 8 Pro users who installed Windows7 (Microsoft has the numbers since they need activation) (iv) Include the cheap upgrades.

Windows 8 is a major fail on every human aspect. Progress is not worst interface in order to train people to use your mobile platform.

I own a Windows 8 tablet, i sell heaps of Windows 8 units (desktops laptops tablets)

Beautiful operating system

im no expert in market share so cant say if its bS or not,
although i have to admit when i first use beta windows 8 i thought WTF is ? gave it a few days thought i dont want to learn this new o/s so went back to my windows 7, i started reading posts about windows 8 and how stupid it looked i even agreed, watched the utube video of the old man sitting at his sons computer with a new installed windows 8, he was then asked to try and get off desktop top then find his programs (which would normaly be in start menu) after a few mins of not being able to get off desktop he gave in, his son then stated his point about the new o/s, anyway months later i read i can get windows 8 for 24.99 uk pounds from microsoft's upgrade offer, i remembered what i thought of windows 8 beta and wondered if it had changed much, after much more reading about windows 8 i decided sod it give myself a test, as all im reading is its a nightmare, so me being me lol upgraded. after i installed it took me about 2 seconds to think i dont have a clue lol but i know google will lol basicly i just googled anything i didnt know how to do with this new gui, i soon found myself enjoying learning something new and after only an hour was fly'n around windows 8 doing all the same things i was doing with windows 7, i even got the free windows media center upgrade, all in all my experience since using windows 8 has been nothing far from grate, no issues as of yet, my daughters pc had some problems (memory leak problem) but thats been sorted now, i do think microsoft should of gone from vista to windows 8 format, they would have made more money with windows 8 and hit the mobile mark quicker.

The only ones lining up for windows 8 are the dung beetles, but they can be forgiven, as they need to eat to survive, but for me, I am just not fine with Metro Poop! Windows 8, The mother of all deal killers!

Installed it on my wife's old hp tablet pc.... Runs great except performance of IE has bombed. Was great at the start now sucks badly. Everything else is pretty nice, but not on my machine though lol.

How many of you are so entrenched in your tech world that you really dont know much about the average consumer or pc user?

There are a lot of regular people (not pc power users) that really like Windows 8. You continuing to b!tch and moan about Windows 8 and preaching how no one likes it is doing nothing more than shouting on deaf ears and living in a box.

[citation][nom]iKyunG[/nom]I personally find the Window 8 OS appealing. I just got it a week ago and am still getting used to it, but I personally like it enough to switch from my Android phone to a Window 8 phone. The only thing stopping me is there isn't a Window 8 phone currently on the market I like.[/citation]

You will regret that move. The WP8 ecosystem is sorely lacking and unless you're using a 3 year old android phone, no Windows Phone is going to hold a candle to your current phone.

I'd classify myself as sort of a power user, and I'm totally fine with Win 8. I'm holding my bet that by the end of 2013, 300 million Win 8/RT licences have been sold.

[citation][nom]Ragnar-Kon[/nom]I have yet to meet anyone that is using Windows 8 period. Everyone I know is either on Windows 7, Mac OS X, or have ditched their desktops all together for an iPad/Android tablet. My boss (who isn't exactly computer literate) actually returned his brand new Windows 8 laptop in exchange for a Macbook Pro because he found Macs easier to use. When you have a life-long Windows user switching to Mac because it is easier to use than Windows 8--you got a problem. And as much as Microsoft is claiming that Windows 8 is doing fine... everyone knows they are a little bit disappointed with the reception it has gotten so far.[/citation]

AGREED!
