Anybody know if there's a simple way to use a gamepad with Might and
Magic 6 through 8? I'm not a compu-geek enough to remap the keyboard.

Chris or Larry LaMere <ljlamere@acd.net> once tried to test me with:

Beats me. I bought a neat Logitech gamepad a while ago out of curiosity but
have yet to find a game it's suited for. I guess I'm just not interested in
whatever kind of game that would be. I'm replaying Might and Magic 6 right
now myself and can't imagine doing it with a gamepad.

That's the type I've got too, supposedly MM 8 can be played with a
gamepat but I can't find an option to configure it.

Many games *can* be played with a variety of input devices such as gamepads
or joysticks, but that doesn't mean that such devices are really good
choices for them. For any of the MM6-8 games (I've played all three), I
don't think you can beat the ordinary mouse and keyboard. I don't doubt that
you *could* play them with a gamepad just to prove it can be done, but I
think it would be a very awkward means of playing.

My MM6 edition included a piece of paper for a gaming device called
PCdash from Saitek. I read reviews that it was better than the keyboard
mouse combo. The problem is: I never checked it, as I found such a rare
beast in a shop years *after* having finished the games.

And now, the Saitek doesn't support it any more.

That's interesting. I never heard of the PCdash before. What sort of device
was it?

I can imagine a device being useful for MM6-8 keypresses as long as it could
be used one-handed, leaving the other hand free for the mouse. There are a
few combinations for which I find the keyboard awkward because they're hard
to do one-handed.

I believe it was a tablet with zones, which could be programmed to
represent various keys. If you pressed a zone, it would work similar to
a touch screen. But as I wrote, I didn't have a chance to test it, and
it wasn't really cheap, so I had no reason to buy it.

Also, I don't know of other games that would support this pad.
