MiniDV camera questions

I am in the market for a 3ccd MiniDV cam but I want one that
shoots 16:9. Should I look for a camera that has this as a
native aspect ratio or do cameras like the VX2000 do a
respectable job of this? What are some other cameras that I
should consider?

I have been looking for a web site that has a forum or
discussion of MiniDV cams but most that I have found are more
a marketing ploy than an objective discussion of merits of
various cameras. Is there a site that does this?

www.camcorderinfo.com is a decent site with a lot of reviews.

For a website try www.dvinfo.net

Most cameras/editing software can do 16:9 in some form or fashion. I
believe that the professional Sony PDX10 camera has a native 16:9
format - not sure about its prosumer cousin the Sony TRV950.
dvinfo.net has some extensive discussions on both topics.

I believe the VX2000 has what could be more aptly described as "pseudo-16:9
ratio". So I would look into that first, and I think I'd look at the most
current models available.

The software solution will loose significant resolution (You'll
basically be tossing 20% off the top and 20% off the bottom to mask it
into 16:9), but is the cheapest way forward.

Or you can pick up a lens that presents a 16:9 image anamorphically to
a standard DV camera, so it would be possible to master a DVD with no
loss of resolution, like this one:

Not sure about the first one, but the century optics one does increase
the field of view. Both however will limit your zoom ability.

You won't loose that resolution, because you didn't have it in the
first place anyway.

Now that is the only way to go with camera's with 4:3 CCD's in them.
