I have an MSI KT3 Ultra MS-6380E board that i got from a friend unused. So I hooked everything up, cleared CMOS, and turned the bad boy on. I tried to change the FSB to 133MHz, but when i rebooted i got no screen, or POST beep to let me know it's working.
I thought it might be the power supply (235W) so i replaced that with a 400W PSU, yet i get the same results. I've tried inching up the FSB, but i can only get to about 118 before the computer will no longer give a display, although i do get a POST beep until the FSB reaches about 123.
Since it's a 333MHz board and i'm running 266MHz ram, i configured it to move the DIMM clock with the FSB clock, but that didn't work either.

It's a VIA KT333, and i'm running 2 sticks of 256mb 266MHz ram. AXP 1700+.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, this isn't really a 333 FSB motherboard... it will run there, but you have to overclock it. Offically the board only supports 266 FSB speeds...

You say you're running the RAM along with the FSB... but what have you got the RAM set at? You need to go into advanced chipset features screen on the BIOS and choose HCLK to make sure you aren't overclocking your PC2100 memory. If you have it set to HCLK+33 or HCLK+66 you are pushing that memory too far.

If you haven't already tried it, you might also go into the BIOS and select the "Setup Defaults" option and see if that works... it should then automatically detect you have a 133 FSB processor in there and run the FSB at 133.

Good Luck!

you could try relaxing the memory timmings and/or increasing the dimm voltage by .1-.2 volts...you may be able to run they mem synch with the fsb in this way...

Hey all you guys - he can't get 133(266)... so he isn't actually trying to overclock, it's not working @ stock...

The reason you can't get above 118 is because the PCI bus is not locked, and works off a 1/3 or 1/4 divider.. at 118 it'll be running @39Mhz, and that's probably what's killing it...

What are your temperatures like, when you can get into the BIOS?

I have a KT333 board that does exactly this. It simply refuses to work @133, and I have tried everything. I think it's just VIA being crap, IMHO.

On mine at least, I reckon the Voltage regulation stuff has died, and the northbridge is being Overvolted so can only run at lower speeds. (my NB temp is 37* even with the case open, @112FSB) as I've noticed my Vcore varies all over the place... but of course I can't see the Chipset voltage.

The end is nigh.. (For this post at least)
Edited by ChipDeath on 08/29/03 06:15 PM.

it all depends on the setup...many cards can take 40+ mhz pci bus....(mine take 42mhz 😱 )

the fact that the comp displays no video leads me to beleive it could be his agp card....

what agp dividers does the kt333 have...
