I would like to use the built-in MoCA on an Arris DG2470.
When I navigate to the MoCA admin page the option to enable it is grayed out.
I wonder if my ISP (Purple Cow Internet) needs to enable the ability to turn MoCA on?
I talked to them and they didn't know. They said they have never used MoCA before but didn't think they had the ability to disable it.

To a point you can never really be sure what feature any cable modem or modem/router will have.

The ISP is responsible for any firmware updates to these devices. Some use custom firmware images. Mostly I have seen it puts the ISP name/logo in the screens. They can though really get any features changed or added if they really want to.

There is not much you can do. I don't think there is a way a end consumer can update firmware on a cable modem even if you could somehow get a image. If you would then somehow get the modem connected to the ISP network they would just update to whatever firmware image they are using for that device. The ISP really only wants 1 version of firmware to reduce its support costs. That...

The ISP really only wants 1 version of firmware to reduce its support costs. That is also why many have very restrictive lists of what modems you can hook up even though technically modems from other vendors would work fine.

If the ISP does not know then it is hard to say who would know. You could try email to arris customer support but I am unsure how responsive they are to end consumers.

As a added comment. That device is only moca 2.0 if I read it correctly. Many of the devices you find being sold are moca 2.5. They will of course work with 2.0 but the newer stuff can run full gigabit speeds and in theory at least run 2.5g if the moca adapter has 2.5g ports. It will cost you a extra $60 to buy 2 rather than 1 moca adapter but then you do not have to worry about the cable company.
