modem advice

Hi all, my modem is just about to die and i need a new one {56k], i have been told that external one's are slightly faster and more reliable, is this true?
So i am thinking about getting the creative blaster external, anyone used/using one of these?

I used the diamond express 56k usb modem before I went cable. Not only was it reliable, easy to install, and easy to get to, it also looks very cool.
