Modern day replacement for R9 280x

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations for a modern replacement/upgraded graphics card.
My current card was an Radeon R9 280x.

Specs.
i5-4690k Cpu
H97M-D3H motherboard
32Gb DDR3 ram
600CX power supply
Running 1080p monitor

Awful time to buy mate in all honesty.
Gpu prices are through the roof.
If the 280x is still working then keep it awhile.

A 1050ti which is 15-20% more powerful max goes for around $200 at the moment.

For 1080p gaming you should aim for RX580 or GTX1060 6GB for a decent performance increase. GPU prices are horrible, though. I sold my 280x a year ago, but was able to get RX480 8GB for a regular price back then. Now it is almost worth its weight in gold, it seems.

My 280x is unusable unfortunately - Horizontal lines of coloured pixels everywhere.

That's about the worst time to have your old GPU fail. I could sell you an old HD 7970 (which is the same GPU), but there's a high chance that you live far enough away that you'd want to go look for a used replacement...
Just really bad timing there :/

Edit: Prices not seasonal, it's just because of mining craze and low production numbers that prices have been skyrocketing lately

Very very awkward at the minute , uk/ europe not as badly overpriced as the usa

The prices in Europe are bad but not as bad as in USA.

In USA, GTX1080 already beyond USD1000.

Now, it is a really bad time to have a faulty graphic card.

I'm in Australia.
I don't want to spend crazy money, I'm not out to mine so don't need something that would run the space station.
Using the above mentioned price for a GTX1080, here in Aus can get them around 900-1000aud roughly 7-800 usd depending on model, pricing may not be as inflated down this side of the globe?

According to pcpartpicker prices, Australia indeed has more reasonable pricing. Judging from what you dais, I'd go for a platform + GPU upgrade with that budget.

The best 2 cards around $450-470 - they are $50-60 AUD overpriced,nothing you can do about that unfortunately - most of the oz stores are doing the good thing & only allowing single sales.

FOr AUD500, GTX1060 6GB is your best bet.
1060 should be somehow still ok.
Pnly GTX1070 upwards are effected really badly by those crypto miners.
