if you can buy it then buy the game so that you will support the developer, the problem is a way overpriced game it should priced at 30 bucks, its not piracy >>> its only file sharing...

@earlier posts

From what I've read you actually can play the pirated version of MW2 with online multiplayer using a trivial crack -- and against people with legit copies as well. The only catch is that every time a patch is released it takes a few days for a new crack to surface.

There is a workaround for the PC version of MW2. Through STEAM, people are able to game on multiplayer with no problems whatsoever. It appears that Infinity Ward's tactic of bypassing dedicated servers to ban cheaters, hackers, and pirates has backfired. Those who would have bought the game are rebuffed and choose instead to play it for free.

[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]Bad company 2 for pc...dedicated servers, dx11 support and is NOT a port from consoles! Pc beta is out Jan 28th according to gamestop. EA/Dice get my money. MW2 can lick my arse![/citation]

file "sharing" is still Piracy. Bottem line- did you pay for the item received content? piracy is the same thing as stealing.

I also agree with others in that from what I read, the game is more like an expansion pack, and an overpriced one at that. If I.W. wants to know how good it REALLY is, don't go off from sales, but rather customer feedback. From what I read (and was about to do myself) customers bought it PRE-SALE. Never played it or saw a review. Just based #2 with how good the first one was, and buoght it. But know they have BUYERS REMORSE. Read several forums of disgrunteled owners of a game that takes between 4 - 9 hours to beat in SP, depending on your skill and difficulty setting. That comes to about $10/ hour of entertainment. And if I.W. can sell 5 million copies, they can give us a REAL complete game.

P.S.
So, Xbox modded consules are doing illegal downloads? Maybe developers will stop screwing PC owners/ treating us like 2nd class customers.

[citation][nom]mikenorth513[/nom]I have bought two copies of every version of Call of Duty until this one, so my brother and I could game together in our clan's dedicated servers. So if you average $40 a game, that's over $400 we have spent on their products. Due to the way they have treated PC MP gamers, I pirated this game for the two of us, so we could play through the short single player campaign, since it wasn't worth our money to spend $120 on a game without real multiplayer support.[/citation]
I know what you mean. I've bought from a store every CoD game and expansion pack. (Same for C&C). When I read the reviews about MW2, I am SO GLAD i did not pre-order it. And with limited free time and money, it is still not on the top of my to-do list.

And since PCs are getting shafted again by develops that put consoles above us, I certainly will NOT buy it for any of the 3 game systems I already own.

P.S.
I use my PC EVERY DAY. My game consoles get occasional use by my kids. And THEY don't get any games unless this PC user goes out and buys it for them. DEVELOPERS, think about that.

[citation][nom]jerreece[/nom]Gee let's see. They're charging $60 for a new game (new games used to be $50) and they pissed off a large part of their PC gaming community.I hope to heck they aren't surprised about the numbers of folks who pirated the game. From a fiscal standpoint, selling 4.7million copies, and having 4.1 million pirated (which is only PC community I assume) means they screwed up royally. Imagine if they could have sold even half of those 4.1 million copies that were pirated....They probably don't care though since they've made a fortune as it is. But imagine how successful the title could have been if they'd not pissed off so many PC gamers, and asked $50 instead of $60 for the game.[/citation]
Can't wait to see what they do for MW3? On-line content only? Screw PC owners? or Charge more money for less game? Watch- I don't think there will be so many pre-sales next time. "Once bitten, twice shy."

The Call of Duty franchise is really going downhill. I don't buy any of their titles anymore w/o reading and watching a review first.

[citation][nom]JeanLuc[/nom]I wonder how many legit copies of Modern Warfare sold on the PC? I'm guessing about 820,000 copies (take a 80% piracy rate). So far MW2 has sold 4.2 million copies with another 1 million pirate copies given it a total audience of 5.3 million on the Xbox 360, PS3 aren't worth mentioning and on the PC we know it's been pirated 4.1 million times with about another 1 million legit copies sold for a total playing audience of 5.1 million(guesstimate). This proves to me PC gaming is far from dead and there's an audience out there to sell you product to and make money from all you need to do is give them what they want. If publishers treated pirate like competition rather then criminals (by offering something they can't) I reckon games companies would make more money out of the PC as a platform then they do currently.[/citation]

You know I've read some outrageous things on the comments section here but the notion that game developers should "treat pirates like competition rather than criminals" ranks up there pretty high.

Really? Treat them as competition? I would like to know how the thieves are competing with the game developers in any way. Game developer creates product, pirates steal product. There is no competition.

Call of Duty modern Warfare 2 the third legit game i bought at full retail price.
1: Ghost Recon for XBOX one
2: Gears of War for Xbox 360
3: COD 6 for PS3

i am too lazy to list all of the other less than legit aquisitions. lol

I dont get it, if crack games are such an issue, why dont the manufactures do something about it and close the sites down (for making pirated information available)...

Anyone know?

[citation][nom]khimera2000[/nom]so.... IW removes the features PC gamers are looking for... pirates go crazy becaus well... who want to play a crippled game??? i say they deserve it. if the company wants to bone its customers they can only expect to have a major loss. at least the pirated version can be hacked to support dedicated servers... that makes it much more appealing to me then what IW ploped out, not to mention the removal of consol really gurks me that was the best way to map out keys >.< so...until IW fixes the game... i think most of the tech savie gamers will probably go for the better source, and probably boycot the purchase of the game.I wonder how much of those pirated copies would be legitimate if they didn't cripple the PC version??? 4 million is a lot of anoyed, but curious folk[/citation]

COD MW (the first one) had dedicated servers and it was the most pirated game. Wow, your whole argument went down the toilet.. Oooops. If it is too expensive for you, don't buy it. I am so sick of people defending piracy....Everything that has happened to video games (DRM, content taken out, features taken out) is due to piracy. Piracy killed the fun in gaming.

Gee, wish I was 'tech savie'.... oh well, guess I'll settle for 'tech savvy'

[citation][nom]sad84227942[/nom]Biometric DRM is the only course of action left! Register your finger print and for a mere $150 Game Company X will send you their latest title (encoded so only you can play it) and a biometric scanner to use every time you load the game.[/citation]
Shhhhh, the DRM gods may be listening.

so ~3 million downloaded copies of mw2...The way these companies market games to consoles, one would think the number of potential PC users would be much smaller than this. Add 3 million to the number of legit sales, and you have a decent market to sell too. A quote from one of my favorite movies applies here I think: "Heads up their asses....heads up their asses"

[citation][nom]Bobafeta[/nom]i thought you couldn't play mp on the pirated version .. so what's the point?[/citation]

because there is no MP. at least not worth playing. Now imagin how many of those downloads would have actualy been sales if they didnt destroy the PC version's MP with no dedicated servers. Its one of many games i didnt buy but since it has no good MP i also didnt even care to see the story either and download it. Guess thier games are going to be a dead end.

[citation][nom]Bobafeta[/nom]i thought you couldn't play mp on the pirated version .. so what's the point?[/citation]

I think you'll find that most of us applied the same logic to the legit version too! which is why I'd like to think so many people pirated it. sadly it just seems to be the figures you would expect given its popularity, not people making a statement.

[citation][nom]maydaynomore[/nom]Everything that has happened to video games (DRM, content taken out, features taken out) is due to piracy. Piracy killed the fun in gaming.[/citation]

Bitching about piracy is an example of publishers failing to adapt to a changing market. There are plenty of examples of games out there with limited protection that are selling great. Borderlands is a recent example that comes to mind for me, Oblivion/Fallout3 is another, and Sins of a Solar Empire. The list goes on, but the message remains clear to me, make a good game, and people will buy it. Over market a game, then more people will steal it because more people will know about it. Over market a crappy/lacking game, and no one will buy it, but many will play it, like Modern Warfare 2...Modern Warfare 2 is not a bad game, I played the single player on PC (my friend got it for me for christmas...), but it certainly isn't worth the 60 dollar price tag. I haven't touched multiplayer at all yet, and don't intend to.

Well, I was basically going to say that they got what they had coming for what they did. People don't want to pay for broken multiplayer and a dumbed-down console port usually.

In this day and age when games are selling for $60 a pop, I think people pirating 5 games per 1 game bought is reasonable. I have a feeling the industry feels this way as well and thus the overpricing of games now a days.

No dedi = Poor outcome = mad people = a big chance of losing tonz of money and loyal customers...On top of that this freaking game was first launched as a PC title ONLY (CoD)!!! And the worst part of it all is that I purchased both the PS3 and the PC version the day the game launched, and it is actually better to connect a keyboard/mouse to the PS3 and play a decent game w/o having to worry about all the wallhackers and aimbots as opposed to getin OwNeD because the dude behind the wall can see YOU!!!

IDK i play it to see what it is like at 70 but im not a happy camper.. I have every single CoD title to this date (including United offensive =)

All this shows is that even the most pirated game of all time can still be the most profitable.

They sort of shot themselves in the foot with this stat showing that piracy ultimately does not affect a title's success.

For all of those of you that pirate software, thank you for screwing up what was once a healthy industry that provided many games to all and had innovation.

Decide before you buy -- it's call a demo version. Deciding how much you want to "pay after you play" is called delusional.

Bottom line, who's gonna do all this work and not get paid for it -- sounds like communism or just a bunch of retarded people that can't seem to connect the dots. You pirate software at this rate and people stop making software -- as the PC market dwindles to nothing and it would appear hacked consoles will eventually follow the same fate. And before you say "I don't care" -- oh really, so that's why you pirate the games in the first place -- oh you care, you just steal and try to justify it, which you can't.

So to all you pirates (givers and takers), I hope you're really proud of yourselves ... what a great eulogy to put on your grave "I helped terminate PC and console gaming".

As for Tom's good job at not banning these folks that openly admit they support piracey ... you do understand the impact this has on you right Tom's?
