modified icon restored to default after reboot

hi,
Recently i downloaded a set of uniques icon from the internet and i change
the my computer, recycle bin, and couple more in the
properties/desktop/customize desktop/change icon. but everytime i reboot, the
modified icons being restored to their original icon. What confuses me, for
normal folder the modifications are intact even after reboot. Hope somebody
could help me with this. Thank you.

It's caused by your video driver (nVidia card?) as identified by David Candy. Here is a workaround from Keith Miller:
