Monitor brand reliablilty

K, I'm looking for a monitor for a friend. He's looking for 21-23 inch. and the most import thing to him is reliability.

what he doesn't know is that he really cares about the picture quality and contrast. It would mainly be used for gaming so ghosting would be an issue.

I don't think he would notice or care about dead pixels.

I mainly want to know generally what you think about brands. For the particluar one i will read ALL the review on newegg... I just want to narrow down the search.

Price range, less than 200$

I like LG and Samsung monitors.

They are great and reliable.

Ive had great experiences with my Asus monitors. Good color, no bleed, and very few dead or stuck pixels.

I've been liking my Dell monitors. I also really like the Samsung and Asus monitors. Haven't had any of them, but I've seen a number that friends have and they look fantastic. I've also heard tons of good things about Hanns-g from friends.

Another thing. the reson he cares about reliability is that he bought a 42inch 1080 p walpart tv. It was a polaroid. (ya who knew they made TV's) It started having issues about a month later. still we have to really fiddle with it to get it to work.

I haven't been able to find anything about hanns-g monitors. i think they might be new. They are really cheap tho... that kindof worries me.

It was pretty pricey back in 2002. At around $750 (I believe I got it on sale for $625) it was one of the most expensive 19" monitor using a S-PVA panel back then. I expected them to use good quality parts.

I'm not sure what to tell ya about the Hanns-g monitors- never used one myself, but have been told by a couple of friends that they are quite nice and have good image quality, etc. Whatever the case then, I'll just say that I am running a Dell 23" 1920x1080 panel that I've really liked. No problems thus far and I've had it for almost a year now. I guess I can;t say much about longevity past a year, but perfect so far🙂

I consider Asus, Samsung and LG to be "Name Brand" according to my list. Acer, Hanns-G and Viewsonic I consider to be of lesser quality but they have excellent bang for your buck. Have not heard of Scepter or NEC.

Personally I have been using an Acer LCD monitor for the past several years. I have no experience with Samsung monitors but I have heard great things about them.

I recently purchased an hp 2009m monitor. It has VGA and DVI input. The 20" model is only 1600x900. I actually purchased it at walmart for $148, after looking at the reviews on newegg. It has great reviews, an average of 5 stars and over 40 reviews. There is a few other monitors in the m line, i know there is a 21.5" at 1920x1080p, has HDMI and DVI input's. Again an average of 5 star reviews with over 30 of them.

Personally... I would reccomend Asus & Samsung. However i would stay away from LG as i have had 2 LCD TV's and 1 monitor from them and had nothin but but problems. I not Run an Hitachi TV (Which to this day i have had no problems with) and a Samsung Monitor

thanks for the list that is a big deal. I never thought that NEC would be on the top. After reading up about hanns-g a agree with that completely. I've played enough games where i can't see anything that isn't welly lit.

Like I said, I am speaking of the entire product including those targeted to the professional and "pro-sumers" (like me). My opinion is influenced by the fact that I have owned my NEC 2690WUXi since Sept. 2007. However, it is not the ideal gaming monitor since it has 33ms of input lag and was priced at over $1,200 at the time I purchased it.

As for Planar monitors, I am currently on my 2nd Planar, the PX2611w ($800) since around June 2009. A bit pricey for most people, but it as less than 8ms of input lag (less than 1 frame) which makes it great for gaming. I gave away my old PX191 back in Oct. 2009 which was in continuous use from 2002 - 2007, then moderate use from 2008 - 2009.

When I ask that to electronic engineers, they've always said that Samsung and NEC are in a class of their own. DELL is usually garbage. LG and Viewsonic are also pretty good, just not in the same league as NEC and Samsung.

Cool link. The article is lengthy but i got tons of dead time to kill while working. And on top of that it is about a monitor i seriously considered recommending. it was 219 on newegg last week (it was on sale).
