Hi guys, this may sound like a newb question, I was wondering if there is anyway to monitor GPU temperature while playing a game? I can always loop 3d mark 06 but when I go to check the tempurature in the nividia videocard settings, the temp usually cools down abit so i dont really know the max laod temp. BTW im using a BFG 6600GT OC @ 570/1160, pretty stable so far, but i just wanna know what the max load temp is. As well, Is there a safe way to remove the heat sink because mine is mounted on w/ plastic push in clip, i dont wanna break them =/ THANKS!

when i wanted to monitor the temp i just used the Nvidia control panel, if u want to see it do what i did use a second monitor just for monitoring and stuff, or if u have a Geforce the forceware 90 drivers make a log file that you can use

Ahh, I tried using RivaTuner, it workes quite well =). My GPU went up to 68C, kinda high??? but no artifacting though... What do you guys think?

68C is a little warm. I used to have two of those exact cards in SLi and the top card usually hit low 60's when overclocked, while the other never got over 53C. If you can, possibly put a case fan blowing air over the card, that should drop the temp a few degrees.

68 isnt that high. as long as it doesnt go above 80 your fine...though i think that these cards are rated to about 115~
still you have to do alot to cause ur card to f***up. stick it with the standard cooler and you wont have any problems.

I just use the monitor in the new forceware drivers that just came out... there is an option to "log after I leave this windows" or something like that. It hits performance a little bit, but to get those temps I think its worth it. Just buy a mobile AC and place it next to the PC LOL

that seems a litte high....but that just might be how those cards run. I have a 6800GT and it is OC'd @ 433Mhz/1.22Ghz and it idles at about 50C and loads out at about 60 or so.... this is with a NV5 cooler that was lapped and using AS5

Maybe different cores have different temps.... running idle at high 60s seems little high, you got good air flow in that case??

I remember this from a different topic, another poster told me that his 6800 (I think) had a max temp in Nvidia drivers of 125, I so assume that the temps differ by model, and that Nvidia has this info buried in the drivers. I'm clocked at 500Mhz, I can get up to 560 I think before artifacting. But at stock I have no artifacts or smoke at 93-95. Thats with an E6600 powering it, with my old 3200+XP it didn't get above 87-89, so I assume it was being throttled. I'll panic at 110ish I think, I run dual monitor so I can watch it.

I'm using an Antec P180B case, just transferred out of a Coolermaster ATCS, no real change in idle temps, If I put all of the fans on full nothing happens, if I use the new mid position fan to blow at the GPU 1 get 1 deg difference (but it appears to be blowing at the outflow of the GPU, so I don't like that).

Yea when I go into the nvidia panel the throttle back temp is around 120+ or something like that.... are you using stock cooling on that Card? I dont think that I have ever seen temps over 65 or so on my card..... but I am in a basement (which is cooler by nature), plus I lapped the crap outta the NV5 cooler that I put on there.

I think you should just buy yourself some dry ice or a big ol fan! 8O

Aye what he said, NVidia cards will protect themselves from over heating if they must. My 7900GT goes to about 73C at max load which I'm told is perfectly fine.

In reply to many people

Yes it is a stock (gainward) cooler, no lapping, no AS5.

No artifacts at 95C (there has been a hint of a line every now and then in BF2, but Its only out of corner of my eye, so it could be me :? ).

And yes all of my temps are in C, and 145C is definately my throttle limit.

Different designs will have different limits, based on nm size, package size, and other things I can't think of.

I do get artifacts if I overclock at 90C but haven't tried to figure out if it was memory or core, it would cause a machine restart, so I stopped OC'ing. Theres probably a balance between speed and heat that is stable and going beyond it results in instability.

The point was that I wouldn't be too surprised at a 70-80 load temp on a 6XXX, if the throttle is lower on a 7XXX then i'd assume std safe load temp would be lower.

I've just cranked up all three 120mm fans in my P180, and the idle temp has dropped by 3-4C so that tells me that at low fans speeds the airflow is sufficient but could be better as at high airlfow there is not much difference, either than or my high airlfow is equally rubbish just noisier, but given its a P180, I doubt it.
