Monitor not working from DVI-HDMI cable to desktop

Hi all,

Recently completed a new build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/crnKCJ

It turns on and everything runs as normal (no motherboard beeps), however, I can't get anything to show up on my monitor - a Samsung 2494SW. Tried running a DVI to HDMI cable from the monitor into both the video card and motherboard of the desktop, only thing that happens is it searches for a bit, goes to digital and then the blue power button just flashes on and off. The DVI-HDMI cable did work on my other two laptops. I'd be hesitant to say it's some issue with the video card given that neither it nor the motherboard video output seems to work and the motherboard is otherwise functional. Is it possible I missed plugging something in somewhere?

Well, I just tried a VGA to DVI-I adapter into the video card and it worked. No idea why, but I'll leave this open in case anyone wants to explain for future inquiries.
