Monitor Question

Hello,

For Christmas I was kindly given a Crossover 27QLED-P monitor, I've unpacked everything and plugged it in but I'm not sure what's wrong.

The problem is that the monitor doesn't seem to receive any power? The adapter shows power, then the monitor has a power supply that shows power but the actual monitor shows no power at all. I currently don't have the DVI cable in, but I would assume this has nothing to do with power but I'm pretty sure this didn't work earlier either. Am I missing something or do I need anything else?

My graphics card is a HD6850 1GB

Thanks

It would if it was on and then going into power saving mode, it may not turn on immediately and then go to power saving mode, it may start in it. I have never heard of that monitor brand so it is definitely possible they do it differently then the mainstream. So your saying the screen remains black but the power LED on the monitor is lit?

The monitor is from korea, I'm using an adapter so it works in the UK. It then has a power brick, like a laptop charger brick and finally the monitor. The monitor shows no power, no lights anywhere I'm wondering if it was damaged when being shipped to here. There are no lit LEDs anywhere on the monitor.

Thanks

Just to note, the power adapter lights up in red, which makes me think it's getting an error but the power brick shows a green light but the monitor shows nothing at all. Not heard any starting sounds or anything from it.

Well, I would guess it's either an issue with the monitor itself (a review a read estimated a 15% DOA rate) or something wrong with the power source, most likely the adapter you are using. Here is a link to a forum that did a review on it: http://www.overclock.net/t/1280755/review-tests-crossover-27q-led-p-pivot-edition-gallery-with-apple-cinema-display

You could try posting there and see if anyone has any advice, I am still inclined to think it is the power adapter but it is strange that you are getting power to the brick. Maybe the brick doesn't like the adapter and won't pass the power through as a result.

Where are you seeing the Red LED? I do not quite follow, according to that review a red LED would indicate it is in sleep mode, in that case, if you haven't tried hooking an input up give it a shot.

Hello, thanks for your reply.

At the top of the adapter there is a red piece of plastic which has a light behind it. This lights up red when plugged in, I think this shows it's working but could because it isn't working correctly?

I also take it DOA = Damaged on arrival?

I have also posted on that forum as they have a sticky about the monitor, just looking for the appropriate action to take. Once you reply to this one, I shall try connecting everything up again but I honestly don't think it will make a difference.

Thanks

So the power adapter you are using is the item with the red LED on it, this was not a part that came with the monitor correct? Do you possibly have a link to that adapter or to the component/hardware it originally came with?

Correct, all the stuff came in a bundle. I will find the the adapter for you now, I know it was recalled back in 2009 from the UK.

Adapter: http://recalledproducts.org/recall/view/wonplug-allinone-international-travel-adaptor

The pictures show the actual model I have, some tech specs can be found here but I'm not 100% sure it's the same.

Power brick: http://www.exportprive.com/19381-large/crossover-power-supply-for-model-27qled-p-black-.jpg

This shows a green light, the plug shown in this picture goes in to the adapter.

This shows the red light, and was included with the monitor package.

This shows no lights anywhere on the monitor, I cannot even hear any sounds when plugged in with all my previous monitors I can.

Test the output from the power brick with a multi-meter. It should give the DC volts on the brick. If it has the proper output then I'd say the monitor itself is dead.

So you are using the original Korean wall plug part and just putting it into that wall adapter? I would guess that could be an issue, probably they aren't playing well together, the guy who did that review actually used a compatible power plug from a printer or something he had, that had his native wall plug but was still able to connect into the power brick. That may have been confusing, let me know if you need clarification, or look to his images where he is describing the power block.

I have fixed it, everything I did was fine apart from thinking the power button was touch screen and turns out they're little circles on the back of the monitor...

Thank you all for your help though 😛

There are no instructions, they're all in korean. :)
