Hey guys

Going to be building my first PC which will have a GTX 980 Ti and was looking for advice on a monitor. Honestly not sure whether to choose between a 27" 1920x1080 or 2560x1440. I don't really know the differences between monitors (especially the panels) so I'm still researching for some specific models however I would appreciate any suggestions you would have, especially one that would really work well with my GPU.

Budget: would not like to spend more than £400

Also Is 4K even worth going for at the moment (a lot of games and movies I watch are not in 4K either)? I know my GPU is pretty powerful but i'm not sure when being used for 4K. Also someone else told my GPU is too overpowered for a 1080p monitor so I should not bother with going for one, Is this true?

Thanks for taking time to look at my post and sorry If i've missed anything important in terms of you guys helping me

Solution
You could go 1080p which is completely fine for a 980ti in my opinion, you can probably max out all titles.

If you really want to go higher i would say 1440p at max, a single 980ti just won't do 4k with nice framerates and high settings.

A 1920x1080 suggestion:

a 2560x1440 suggestion:

Both monitors are 27 inch, you could however buy two 1920x1080 monitors or even three. (If you go for three i'd say go for 24 inches.)

The main problem with higher resolutions than 1920x1080 is the price of those monitors.

well after thinking about my build I may be changing to two 980's running SLI. Would you say it would still be good to run that 2560x1440 recommendation as that one looks really good in my opinion

These components are so far what I have chosen and I think for now I'll stick with one 980 Ti and get another one later on and run SLI. Is a 980 Ti on its own good to run a 1440p monitor like the one you recommended?

With an 980ti (a much better idea than using SLI), you either buy a 1440p 144Hz monitor, or a 4K 60Hz one.

Given your budget limitation, I suggest this 4K Acer with G-Sync.

It has good colors presets and contrast for a TN monitor and is delay free, unlike most 4K monitors of this price range.

It is a bit over your budget, but it is a shame to go cheaper given that you already spend a ton for your PC. You can cut from PSU, CPU, cpu cooler, RAM or motherboard if you have to.

EDIT: The better alternative is this 2K AHVA 144Hz with G-Sync: https://skinflint.co.uk/acer-predator-xb270hubprz-um-hb0ee-009-a1216766.html
It is pretty expensive, but given that you somewhat overspending for your hardware, you should definitely cut from your hardware and buy this monitor, it is a better long-term investment.

yeah i've been trying to cut down on some of my components prices. Is it worth going for 4K right now? I'm just thinking of getting a 1440p monitor for now and instead wait for cheaper 4K monitors

If you are about to buy an 980ti, you also have to buy a premium monitor. I would buy the 2K Acer because I prefer an AHVA panel to a higher resolution, but it is also more expensive. If you would rather avoid the extra cost, then the 4K N with G-Sync is the only other logical choice. Otherwise, such an expensive system and gpu will go to waste.
