Question Monitor's built-in fps counter fluctuates a lot even when my framerate is perfect constant capped ?

Monitor: Lenovo Legion Y27q-20 27-inch WLED Gaming
My monitor is Gysnc - Compatible, max variable refresh rate of 165 fps. When I cap the game below 165 in RTSS, my monitor's built-in fps counter would flicker all over the place when the framerate is constant at the capped fps max.

In the video, I capped my fps at 85 fps, and you can see from my in-game fps is 85, it is constant, but my monitor's built-in fps counter moves around a lot.

Does anyone know if this is normal for games capped below the max fps of variable refresh monitors?

Here's the video proof

Do you mean the values being shown in the white bordered box?

I see the frequency constantly changing on the monitor. Not the frame rate....?

And, out of curiousity, why is the frame rated being capped? Why 85 fps?
Hello,

I'm having the frame cap to keep the frame time graph consistent to have a smoother experience.

The monitor's hertz change with the fps in the game. In this case, my fps is capped to 85. If my in-game fps go below 85, my monitors hertz will go down to the in game fps without constant change in values. Only when the in-game fps reaches the capped fps, my monitors built in(in the white box) Hz monitor begin to show all the constantly changing values.

My thought is that if the fps capped then there must be some sort of trade-off needed when the system attempts to exceed the cap. I.e. changing/adjusting the MHz somewhere. Beyond that I will defer to the EE folks.

However there are a number of online links regarding MHz vs fps.

For example:

https://streamersplaybook.com/does-hz-affect-fps/

(Found by googling "does mhz affect fps").

Read a few links and revise the search criteria as necessary for more information and explanations.

Some links include discussions about the affects of RAM as well.

Go as deep into it all as you wish.
