i just got a 1ghz celeron running on a slot 1 converter but when i boot up it just powers up then nothing..cant reset or even switch off machine..
I have 3 hard drives..2 cd writers..geforce2..sb awe 64..adaptec scsi card..and monitor connected all taking power..the psu is rated at 250w..please help if you can coz its driving me crazy..I know its not the mobo coz i can put my p2 350 back in and it will work

It might very well be the PSU. Multiple drives (HDD, CD-ROM) and the graphics really put preasure on the PSU´s performance. Your current CPU uses more power, and it might just be too much for your PSU. Try a 300W of good quality (Antec, Enermax or Codegen) or a 400-450W of another brand. You could start by booting with less hardware, maybe only a harddrive and CD-ROM, might make a difference?

1. Are you sure you've bought the right converter? Is it with FCPGA socket, or it's PPGA? It must be FCPGA!
2. Are you using the right voltage? Your old CPU runs with higher voltage, and most of the older mobos doesn't support any lower. The good slotkets have voltage jumpers to manually adjust the voltage.
3. Have you updated the BIOS?
4. There are junky slotkets which don't work.
5. The fastest Celeron that I've watched to work with slotket card on Shuttle MB wit BX chipset is running at 533 MHz. The guy tried the faster Cel566MHz, but it happened just as you describe it, inspite of he updated BIOS and set the proper voltage.

well i bought a 400w psu..tried resetting the cmos etc..it wont work with my 1ghz or 1.2ghz celeron..i have also tried booting up without the memory but i dont get any error beeps..so from the look of it its either the slocket is faulty or the mobo just wont handle it..The slocket specs are : intel/cyrix ppga&fcpga 370 cpu..works with all slot 1 mobo's..66/100/133 mhz bus speed..supports all intel/cyrix ppga*fcpga celeron & coppermine..supports dual/single cpu

Sounds like a low voltage problem. The motherboard will only support 1.8 or 1.75 volt as the lowest detected voltage for the processor. If the chip is 1.65, 1.7 1.75 sometimes the motherboard will not do anything. No beep codes. Nothing.

So what you need is a slocket converter with voltage jumpers on it.Or you need to change the detected voltage by using small wire jumpers in the socket to change the detected voltage.

This post by Crashman explains it pretty well. You will need to download the Intel white papers for the P3 to get the picture for the pin placement on the processor.

Take a very fine wire aproximately 1/2" long and bend it so that it looks like a staple. With the top part of it the same width as the holes in the socket you want to connect. Now drop this in the two socket holes you want to connect and install the processor.

You need pages 20 and 97 off of the US Web Server.{BYTE server} Page 20 is the voltage pin spec sheet. Page 97 is the Pin identification chart for the P3 celeron processor.

With these two pages you can set your voltage to whatever works best for you.

well i gave up trying to get the slocket to work so now i got a new mobo its an Abit VH6T running a 1.2ghz celeron..now im just curious as to the correct cpu temp i should have??
