I have an older Sony VAIO and I acquired an official Sony replacement battery. I tested the new battery on another compatible laptop that is not owned by me and the battery works. My laptop however does not see it apparently and I am wondering why as this problem occurred with my old battery which is why I bought the replacement. My laptop can stay on with or without the battery as long as my charger is connected. For some reason the battery is not detected on my laptop despite it working.

What part of my laptop is failing exactly? Is it the motherboard or some kind of power piece that is soldered to the board?

Every other aspect of the laptop works, I have no bad ports, faulty RAM or otherwise. It's just the battery which for some reason is no longer being accepted by the actual laptop.
