With the holidays coming up I'm interested in upgrading my GPU from a 1070ti to a 3070. I've been trying to figure out if if the 3070 is compatible with my current motherboard but I haven't been able to find an answer. I have a GIGABYTE Z370 HD3. If it is not compatible how can I tell which motherboards are compatible?
Thanks!

Solution
Yes, all of your PCIe slots are 3.0 so you should be good to go.
(FPS difference is neglectable between 3.0 & 4.0)

The only thing you won't have is NVIDIA RTX IO, but this should not hold back any FPS performance.

The GPUs coming out utilize the increase in bandwidth that comes with PCIe gen 4. In order to get the most out of your GPU, your mobo has to have gen4 support. That being said, you can definitely run it on a gen3 board (such as your z370) except you'd be leaving performance on the table because gen3 doesn't have the bandwidth capabilities of gen4. I don't know how big the performance gap is, I just know there is one. Hope this leads you in a good direction!
