motherboard for GTX 970 build. No overclocking

I'm planning to build a new gaming machine with specs below:
Note: I won't do any overclocking and i'm sticking with default setup. I'm also considering the cost.

processor: i-7 4XXX (depends on availability, not the K model)
GPU: MSI/gigabyte/asus GTX 970
PSU: XFX/corsair (not CX/VS)/seasonic 550W-650W

Currently, these are some good MOBOs I found:

1. Asus z97-A / z87
2. Asus maximus hero VII / VI
3. gigabyte z97 / z87

For MOBO, i'm not sure if the z97 models (I don't think I will move to Broadwell) and maximus hero VI are overkill here (maybe way too much for default setup?).

TL;DR 😀 I'm looking for the cheaper but RELIABLE one, so i need your help to determine which MOBO i would go for. I'm open to suggestions with other brands. My budget ranges from $100 - $200 (the cheaper one but still reliable, the better)

probarbly the H87 series which can support the 4th gen processors

Z series is for OCing ,which you dont need

the h97 i think has broadwell as well as the 4th gen support

SO from the above

1. go for the h87 of ot os available for a cheaper price else go for the h97

2. donot go for the z series unless you are into overclocking


Suggested brands - ASUS / MSI(to a lesser extent)

vengance and fury are good ones ,so no problems with that

1600hmz is good enough ,but you can get a 1866 for the same price.MOst mobos support till 1866Mhz

2100+ is pretty much worthless in terms of FPS gain , they do nothig except decreae the loading time which is negated if you have an SSD.

Another thing

i just noticed you opted for an i7.Dont go for one unless you do video-editing or 3dgraphics

i would suggest an i5 4690 if your budget allows or a cheaper i5 4460 which will allow you to save antleast 200$ enabling an 989 / 970sli

just on the side i5 and i7 are the same with the only difference is hyperthreading in i7 which results in a 4 core essentially becomming an 8core which is practically useless in gaming as it is rare that even 4cores are used .
you will see verylittle/no fps improvement while increasing the cost

Depends I got a z97 for sli purposes. I plan to sli and maybe overclock. Right now, no need. On a 720p monitor lol.

I know GTX 970 is waaaay overkill but I want it so I don't need to upgrade anymore moving forward (i'm currently using HD 7770 and it supports all my needs even at max settings)
