Hi,

I have following configuration
Processor : Intel Q9300
Motherboard : Asus P5Q
Ram : 2 GB DDR2 800 FSB

I am planing to make some small changes like a mother which can support my old processor & also support ddr3 ram, used motherboard will also do, but i can't find any. Can some suggest where I can find some or any better solution.

I didn't thing there would be any motherboards with 775 sockets that support DDR3....BUT, I see a few in this list

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627%20600007879&IsNodeId=1&name=LGA%20775

Also, the note on this card;

DDR3 800/1066/1333(OC) (Note: FSB800 CPU only support DDR3-800)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138297

Indicates to me that there would be ZERO (0) performance gain if you move to a new motherboard supporting DDR3 RAM.....

But, you might have other reasons to upgrade I don't know about....

If your buying new RAM and a new motherboard; why not throw in a NEW Processor too? That way you would gain a lot of performance.

Hi,

The best option is to add a 2x2 ddr2 ram either 800 or 1066 FSB & a SSD, I don't know much about SSD, is there a motherboard compatibility issue, on which port they work, my board is Asus P5Q & I did a search these were the few SSD I found : Intel X25-M SATA, OCZ's Best SSD Value, Crucial C300 SATA 3.

Thanks for the help.

We'll SSD's are nice. And, they are fast. But, any drive only helps when your loading a file or saving a file from the device. That is a Very tiny percentage of the time I use a computer. So, for me, the value of such devices if fairly low.

The Intel X25 goes for $180....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167031

Adding 2Gb of DDR2 1066 RAM will cost $45...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104008

Or, 4Gb $80..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144255

So IMHO, for $260, I buy a faster computer; MB/RAM/& CPU. This will be faster 100% of the time you use it....

ASUS MB; $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131672

AMD quad core 3.2Ghz CPU; $140 (or, get an AMD 630 for $99...)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

And 4Gb of DDR3 1600 RAM; $35
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104203

Total: $245...........( or $205 with the AMD 630 )

Who says that ssd drive only helps when saving or opening a file ? , you can open task manager in Win 7 , and look resource monitor - disk activity. - and you will see all the OS Processes and subprocesses that are writing a lot of data continuously to your disk, this has been always a bottleneck if you have a fast processor and memory and a slow drive, this is why a fast ssd disk will improve the system performance a lot ,and must be used as a master disk where the os resides, and for what it is invented, you can leave your Normal Drive as slave to save and load big files like video or photos. A Q9300 is yet a good processor superior in quality and more expensive in many cases than many theoretically better and modern ones, see the marks and reviews, and you can overclock it to 3.5 . you can add a SATA 2 300,( to 775 motherboards), like the ssd ocz vertex 2, i think that it is the best in the reviews and best prices, for this motherboards, more ram like 8gb of course will improve the performance too.
