I have been shopping around for a new PC. I want to get a 1ghz (266) Athlon then later upgrade to a 1.4ghz down the line. What I want to know is if the current 1ghz motherboards can support the new 1.4ghz Athlon? Or even 1.3ghz athlon? I'm looking at an Asus A7M266. It says on their site it supports 500mhz-1ghz+. Does anyone know what teh max speed on it is?

More than likely, yes, new motherboards will be able to support the 1.4ghz.

Unless your rich or don't care about anything, there would be no real reason to get a 1.4ghz as almost all the 1.0 ghz (retail) are guaranteed to overclock to at least 1.4ghz.
