Currently building a desktop with the z87-a motherboard and when trying to run a test boot, no display come up on my monitor. Fans were working, led lights were on, but there was no display and for some reason the "cpu_led" was red. it is supposed to be green? is building it on carpet very risky as well even though i was using an anti-static wrist band?? no item every touched the carpet but is that still a risky thing to do? anyways, thank you for taking your time to read this and your help is much needed!!! thank you!! :)

Solution
A lot of the z87 boards arent compatible out of the box with newer CPUs. Some require a BIOS update, it cant be done unless you have an older CPU.
Take it back to the shop and get them to do a BIOS update

would a intel core i5 4590 be considered a "newer" cpu? excuse me if this is a dumb question haha I'm still learning day by day :)

ahh okay i see! what motherboard would you recommend if i were to abandon the z87? my parts include: Intel Core i5 4590k, MSI GeForce GT 740, G.Skill RipJaws (2x4gb), Corsair cx600, Samsung 850 EVO 120gb ssd, and a rosewill galaxy 01 case. thank you very much by the way!!!
