i have an inspirion 5100 and just recently my motherboard and CPU weent
bad. i called dell and they told me that they would send someone to my
house to fix it and never did. i think that dell service is a joke and
i would advise everyone who has a dell that is still under warenty not
to call tech support for help cause they just make you computer worse.

i called for help and they said that a tech would be at my house in
friday. they never came. then i was tod that soneone would be ther on
saturday. then i was told that noone was comming on saturday and that
someone might come and fix it on monday. I call tech support because my
screen would not turn on. my comp was on but nothing on my screen. when
i was done with the call i had taken my memory cards out, the battery
and fiddled with the motim card in the back. this is everything that
they told me to do.

never called back.

That would be really frustrating. What did Dell say when you called them
after the tech didn't come? What's specifically wrong with the machine --
perhaps we can help.

Oh, and what do you mean they make your computer worse? If they didn't show
up, what did they do that made it worse?

Read on. He did call more than once.
After a few calls I might not bother either, thinking it's hopeless.

Did Dell tech support give you some sort of case number or incident number? If
not, they were not doing the job right. Call them back and request this info,
as well as phone number of the Dell service provider assigned to the job. Dell
does not employ service techs. They contract out all the warranty service work,
as do HP, Gateway, IBM/Lenovo. Name brand companies are becoming nothing more
than organizations that sell equipment built by other companies and repaired by
still other companies.

BTW, the Inspiron 5100 has acquired a hot reputation. It runs really hot.
Drive failures and processor/motherboard failures are not uncommon.

i spent like 5 hours on the phone talkig ot like 12 different people
that didn't even speak english and didn't really care that i was a
unhappy with the service that i recieved and with the people that i was
getting transfered to. i talked to more people than i really wanted
to. so no i didn't just sit there and take it i fought back for 5 hours
and it got me no where.....

i did recieve a case number and that was at 12:00PM on the night that i
called the first time. i couldn't believe that he called me at
midnight. i really think that they need to be aware of you the consumer
are. they called from new delih india. and it wasn't hte first time
that he called me at rediculous hours. it happened on the second time
that i called back to find out who and when someone was comming to fix
the problem. ...

also it took five day for the computer to get serviced, a late college
test handed in, and missed homework. even when the tech came to fix it
they had and excuse for why it was late, and told me that DHL change
their computer service and so deliveries were delaied a few days.
Furthermore they tried to tell me that becaseu of the Hurricane,
services were to be delaied. I live like 1500 mile away from where the
hurricane hit LA,MISS, AL. if it was an issue i should have been
informed of this when i called and spoke to a tech the first night when
they arranged for someone to come to my house.

If things are that important, then don't wait until the last
minute. And I have never given a student a break for an excuse
like the one here. Students are expected to think their way out
of difficult situations and there are plenty of alternate means
of getting the college test done on time and for missing doing
the homework. And if all of the material happens to sit in the
Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop, what would happen if the laptop got
lost or stolen. Where's the backup for the files...a backup that
can be used in the school library, computing center, etc., for
completing the test, homework, etc.?

i didn't us it as an excuse this is just what happened when the
computer didn't work. I got tied up trying to fix the problem for such
a long time. it's very frustrating when things don;t work and you don't
know why. i have never had this happen before. i'm simply looking to
see if anyone else has had this problem with dell products, as far as
them not working and haveing trouble with tech support.

Yes, he ultimately stated that. But not in his first post. And combined with
his created "sig" for the group....

E-mail Michael Dell, report the problem to the Austin, Texas BBB and to the
Texas attorney general's office in written form.

I'm betting on a quick resolution if the OP does those three things.
Shouldn't have to come to that, but the system should be repaired properly
and promptly.

Playing the devil's advocate here, if it was that important to you,
does it matter what time they call you?

Suggestion: Call Dell tech support again during the early evening hours in your
time zone (PDT?). Odds are better you'll hear clear English spoken, while all
the Dell tech support people in India are sleeping.

Next suggestion: Get a case number assigned to the problem, and track it on
line... Ben Myers

Word to the wise, plan for disaster. First document I ever typed was on an
Apple IIe. It took 8 hours, one power failure and six more hours to retype
it. I still have a hard copy of it.

I learned that in the military and have found it to hold true for computers
and networks.

Lets review here...

You called Tech Support, an appointment was made, the Tech failed to show
up and you just sat there and didn't call back?

And just how did dell Tech Support make your computer "worse"? If No one
showed up, and nothing was done to your computer, how has Dell (or anyone
else for that matter) made it "worse"?

Perhaps, given some time, you will grow and gain a little maturity. Once
that occurs, you will have the mental capacity to understand that unless you
ask for help, you will not get help. All you have done with your post is
make a childish rant. Had you simply stated what the problem is with your
motherboard, and asked for help or advice, you would have gotten it. As it
stands, no one really cares about you self-centered little snit of a post.

I would suggest you get rid of the Dell, and buy a different brand. Since
you have no clue on how to help yourself, we don't need you blaming
everything from global warming to the war in Iraq on Dell.

Get a clue...

Bobby

This is a hoax. With his spelling, he couldn't graduate from grade school

You'd be surprised. I would have thought that when I graduated
college but not now. Of course this doesn't say much for our
education system unfortunately.

Ah, my humo(u)r escaped you. Reread MY first response, which was very
supportive.

You have to admit either he is a lousy typist or his English is just really
poor.
