I have a M/B that was capable of up to a 2.8 ghz processor. Now with bios
updates it can go up to 3.4. I have a 3.0 processor. Is there any way to
update the bios without the processor being in the MB. With it in, the system
will not start because it will not recognize the processor.

Any suggestions?

You can upgrade the bios regardless of the processor you are using. The bios
will be backward compatible with every processor your motherboard can run.

With the 3.0 processor in the MB, everything turns on, drives spin up but my
monitor goes into powere save. Last time this happened it was because the
processor was to fast. Purchasing the 2.8 MB was a mistake along with the 3.0
processor, so I do not have the 2.8 to fall back on to upgrade the bios
because the system will not boot wi the 3.0 installed.

Any other suggestions would be helpful

Is this the MSI or Abit motherboard with the Via KT800 chipset? (MSI PT880
or Abit VT7)

No, you bannot flash the BIOS without a RECOGNIZED processor installed....

Unless you have a spare slower processor or can borrow one somewhere, I'd
take the computer to a shop and ask them to do it. It shouldn't cost _very_
many bucks, if they agree to do it..

With the 2.8 cpu in place, and the sys being operational, upgrade the bios.
If the sys fails to boot, with origonal cpu, youve done something wrong.
Fit the 3.0cpu, if it then fails to boot check mobo manual for cpu specific
settings
