Question Motherboard solder damage

Hey all,

A mate tried repairing my laptop motherboard and over heated one of the pads..
Is this repairable if so how.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

If the surface mount capacitor located right next to PL101 isn't damaged and you're laptop is functional, I'd advise to disregard the job your "mate" did.

hey thanks for your reply,

I have not checked if the laptop is functional the capacitor is fine. the worry id the centre pin on the dc power jack has no contact to the board because the pad was over heated while removing the old dc power jack

It's not entirely clear but it appears to be repairable to me with one of two methods.

One: I'd push the remaining lead through the board after reflowing the solder then solder in a suitable gage of solid wire to solder to the remaining stub lead on the connector.

That may not work if, for instance, the VIA has become detached from an inner board layer. So then....

Two: find a nearby leaded device with a lead that attaches to the inner layer and route an insulated wire of appropriate gage to that from the remaining stub lead.

A decent tech could do it.
