Motherboard tier list: X99 chipset

X99 chipset:



This chipset is the only current chipset which natively supports DDR4 memory sticks, and is based off LGA2011-3 platform. Often suited for workstation users and enthusiast gamers, this chipset has all features you usually want from a desktop board. All have SLI ability and SATA3 ports.

The general quality of boards in this list is quite high, since it supports high end multiple core processors. Quality not being a major factor, features have been given due weightage. OCing capability has been looked upon, quad GPU support has been looked for. Check each tier for more info.

Tier One: THE BEST. 4 Way SLI supported, can do some serious OCing, all premium features, these boards are the best X99 you’ll get in the market. Usually in the $250-650 price range, they’re all good for some extreme OCing or quad GPU fun! They still differ in features, like EXTREME11 has gigantic number of storage ports, since all boards in this tier particular have all premium features, further tiering might not be appropriate.

I love the list but I have a question. I purchased an AS Rock X99 OC Formula. This motherboard is supposed to have the E-ATX form factor but it measures 12" x 10", which makes no sense to me. The box it came in states clearly Form Factor: E-ATX and I'm concerned that I got ripped off by either AS Rock or the vendor of this motherboard component. I can't find anything that really tells me what the actual size of this board is supposed to be. I've even looked at the AS Rock website:

I'll have to contact the company that sold it to me because now I'm nervous about using it. I purchased an extra large tower, the Nanoxia Deep 6, since I plan to upgrade to an HPTX motherboard in a about two years. This motherboard doesn't fix any of the form factors and I'm worried. I had to work and save so I could get the computer and programs to install on it so I can move and get a real living wage.

Can anyone confirm the sizes/form factors these motherboards are supposed to be? That would be really helpful since I'm new to building my own setup.

I can't take this list seriously, UD3 and UD4 being in the highest tier? The boards are absolute garbage and everything about them, features/build quality good or otherwise, is RUINED by the fact that the bios for those boards and practically the entire range of X99 gigabyte boards is complete and UTTER GARBAGE. Just look at the numerous problems people have with them across all forums and retailers.

standard atx is 12 x 9.6 and eatx is 12 x 13

The manufacturer does list this as a form factor of E-ATX on every site I've seen that sells it but will not usually list the actual size. I've seen it on Newegg with the measurements listed which would have been helpful had I seen it first.

The reason it is listed as an EATX instead of an ATX is the 10.5 " measurement. As soon as it exceeded the 9.6" standard for ATX, the manufacturer was forced to list it as EATX. This standard doesn't require the full size EATX form factor. It exists to help the builders match a case with a board. What they are saying is not that it will fill the bay of an EATX case, but that it won't fit an ATX case. Hope this helps you.

So where would the updated asus boards be considered in this list now? Specifically the new asus deluxe ii board, would it still be considered in tier 2? I am trying to decide between either the asus deluxe ii or the msi x99a gaming 9 ack and these posts definitely help.
