Motherboard Trial and Error

I was trying to test if my motherboard is worming before i put in the gpu cpu and ram. It wouldnt start up with the power switch or screwdriver trick. Is it dead or do i need more parts before it will turn on?

Even to test if the fans will spin etc...?

I'm not sure how much you need to test if the fans will spin, but the fans spinning up is not an adequate test of whether or not the motherboard is working

I assumed that if it turned on the psu fan and case fans would follow. I guess ill put the rest of the parts in then test it.
