So recently I've had this problem on my computer where the mouse cursor still moves perfectly fine but it only seems to respond to clicks within one process/window (and it's not always the same process), almost as if it's getting "locked in". The best way to describe it is to imagine a modal window where your cursor works perfectly within that modal window but you can't click on anything outside of that modal window and the cursor won't change/react to anything outside of that window, either.

And if I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up that Windows menu where I can select the task manager/etc, and click once in there, everything goes back to normal for a few minutes. I can exit out of that screen and click on all the other windows just fine. But after a while (amount of time is very random - sometimes seconds or sometimes minutes), the same behavior occurs again.

Any help or ideas?

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

I just tried a clean boot and made sure all Microsoft programs were disabled as well as anything in the task manager but I still have the problem.

Some applications are just programmed like that. Quite common in various games.
They are meant to be used in full screen mode and there is not supposed to be any clicking on other windows.
It happens even when I'm using chrome it would lock onto the current tab I'm using and I can't x out other tabs.

Make and model mouse? Age?

If wireless - try a new battery.

= = = =

Try another known working (no window click problems) mouse on your computer?

Try the mouse on another known working computer.

Determine if the problem follows the mouse or stays with the computer.

Manually download the drivers directly from Razer's website.

Reinstall and reconfigure.

No third party tools or installers.

if the problem continues:

Try another make and model mouse and keyboard on your PC.

Try the existing mouse and keyboard on another PC.

Determine if the problem folllows the mouse and keyboard or stays with the computer.
