I have a fairly new PC build but have been having this problem since the first week of use. I can only have one working USB device in a specific port. If I plug the mouse or keyboard into that USB port it will work perfectly. Any other port will cause the mouse to stop functioning after 5 minutes or the keyboard to lag at every 4 or so keys. REALLY annoying when gaming. I have tried my other keyboard/mouse from my other PC and have the same problem.

ASUS Z170-A ATX Motherboard, Intel Core i7 6700K, Windows 10 Home, Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 0 WINDFORCE.

Front or rear ports? Double check any internal connection cables.

Check inside the USB ports (power off) for debris or signs of physical damage.

Try the Windows 10 troubleshooter via "WIN" + "I" > Update & security > Troubleshoot. Select and run specific troubleshooters as applicable.

You can also use the Event Viewer logs to look for any USB/device related error codes or warnings.

Ports are good. Scanned registry and no faults or errors. However when checking events I noticed MpEngineStore kept failing and security audit.around the time of the problem. Troubleshooting did update a missing driver however the problem remains. Update though, It doesn't matter which usb port is in use. Either the keyboard or mouse will fault but not both at the same time.

Good idea but I have no USB hub. Let me clarify. Only Motherboard USBs being utilized. Only mouse and keyboard using those ports. HDMI output to monitor, Ethernet to router, and sound output. Thats all that is connected.
