Mouse pointer moves to ul of desktop: Click on the clock, lower right, no problems. Double click on clock and the clock window opens. Close the clock window and the mouse pointer jumps to the ul of desktop. If I click anywhere on the desktop now, there is a temporary dotted-line box, then the mouse pointer jumps to the corner again. But the next time I click the pointer is normal, and stays that way until I open another window and close it.
I used the clock as an example, but same thing happens with any folder on my desktop. Sequence is, click, mouse normal. Double click to open a window, close the window, now mouse jumps. Click, mouse jumps. After that it's normal until I open another window.

If you hold down the right button on the desktop, a dotted-line box is temporarily drawn, until you let go of the button. This box is what happens during the problem, until I let go of any button.

Same thing happens when I use a usb mouse, so it's not the mouse hardware. It acts like there's a setting somewhere (haven't found it yet...) or maybe there's a virus of some sort that my Avira free doesn't show up.
Any ideas????

I have similar problem. I have logitech PS2 mouse for 2 years and it worked perfect till now. My pointer moves randomly on its own and some time blocks and i cant move it at all. This happens periodically. I tried with reinstalling drivers, installed new drivers, another mouse, scan for virus, and malware. Nothing helps. If anyone knows how to fix this please help.

A lot of people have this problem for a lot of reasons. Some of them are:
* Bad mouse drivers
* Bad video Drivers
* Dodgy hardware including the mouse itself or graphics tablets or other pointing devices
* Other hardware and applications that interfere with the mouse pointer by hijacking it.

As a start - try a different mouse if you can. Take one home from work or borrow one from a friend - see if the problem persists. If no help, try disabling suspect applications - disable or lower your video card hardware acceleration in video properties. Close any applications that may interfere with the pointer - anything related to graphics or desktop enhancement or related to the mouse, such as custom button configuration managers. Find out if the mouse will work properly in *any* full-screen applications like games, best of all DOS games if you have any. Finally, close down every damn application and process you can whilst still having windows running, does the behaviour persist? If so, try reinstalling mouse drivers or changing mouse drivers. If this doesn't help, you probably need a new mouse.

You can also try taking your mouse and using it on a different computer - if it works fine there's theoretically nothing wrong with the mouse - it's a software/driver problem.

Worth Trying: Go to "Mouse Properties" via "Control Panel" then "Mouse". If more than one Device is shown under "Name" click to choose an alternative and save OK.
Example: I changed from "Standard PS/2 Port Mouse" to "HID - compliant mouse" and the judder has gone! I'm using an Asus Laptop with Windows 7 Home. Mouse type is "Genius" plugged in to a PS/2 port.
I hope this may help you and any others with a similar problem.
