Mouse pointer will stay where I put it. It goes off screen, low rght.

I have a Dell computer. About 2 yrs old. My pointer will move with the mouse but will not stay. It jumps off the screen to the lower right.

what mouse are you using? try another mouse and see if the same thing happens

I am using a logitech wireless mouse. However, have tried the mouse that came with the computer. Same result.
I can move the mouse pointer to a place on the screen but it immediately starts jumping to the lower right in a series of jumps and finally exiting the screen on the lower right. Also, if I hold down the left button and move the mouse it starts drawing a line on the screen. As soon as i release left button it goes off screen to lower right.

Another comment is: If I restart the machine sometimes the mouse works correctly. However, if I leave the computer on, without shutting it down, it will continue to work correctly for several days and then starts all over again.
