So I've been using these headsets (Sennheiser G4me Zero) for like 3 or 4 years now, and they really took a beat (I didn't really treat them well), anyway, I am now looking to get an upgrade, I've been eyeing the Audiotechnica M50X, but I don't know if this would be an upgrade or a downgrade ...
I would take any recommendations (doesn't need to be a headset because I've got an external mic) in a budget of roughly $200, and maybe even get an AMP (or something like that, this is unknown territory for me). Thanks!

The M50X is the most over rated headphone on the market. A very narrow soundstage, bloated bass that bleeds into and colors the mids and they're uncomfortable.

Primarily for gaming and secondarily for music the Sennheiser HD599.

Primarily for music and secondarily for gaming the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD58X.

Neither require an amp although if your motherboard is terrible you might want something low powered. I'd encourage you to check out reviews of both. The soundstage on the 599s is better making them superior for gaming. Overall fidelity is slightly better on the 58X making...

Neither is a wrong choice for either gaming or music though.

I'll be checking Massdrop x Sennheiser HD58X reviews, because I'm now mostly focusing on music (forgot to mention that). But do you have any other recommendations around this price range?

You won't beat the 58X in that price range. I'd argue that the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD6XX is a better headphone at $220 since it's an HD650 with different paint but you NEED a significant amp to get anything approaching maximum potential out of it. So if you're looking at spending another $300+ on an amp/DAC chain get the 6XX.

The Philips Fidelio X2HR is also $150 on Amazon. It's also a really well reviewed headphone that's a soundstage monster making it excellent for gaming and entertainment in general and worth considering.

I'm a Sennheiser fan for music though. And the 58X has stellar reviews with many people who own the 600 and 650 ( I have both ) liking the 58X better. One of these days I need to grab one just to see.

I have no experience with Philips headphones, so I don't really know how they sound, on the other hand I like how my current sennheiser sound.
I have spotted the Sennheiser HD 599 on sale for 190euros (~210$), would these be better than the HD58X's? Also, would they work fine without an AMP? (My motherboard is a Z170 PRO GAMING in case you need to know)

Ah when you listed your budget in USD I thought you were in the US. Massdrop does have an EU audiophile collection that ships from an EU warehouse and includes VAT in the pricing.

As I said above I'd go with the 58X over the 599 for music. Most people consider the HD58X to be closer in sound to a Sennheiser 6 series than a 5 series. The 58X doesn't have a direct Sennheiser equivalent but it's based on drivers similar to the the HD660S.

Now that being said the 599 is an amazing headphone that I'd recommend in a second. It's a revised HD598 which I own and still use for daily use and gaming.

While that's certainly not a bad headphone it's not in the same class as anything else mentioned in this thread. He wants an upgrade from what he has not a sidegrade.
