Hi everybody,

I'm going to buy an Asus G75VX pretty soon and it comes with the standard 750gb 7200rpm hard drive with Windows 8 installed and I wanted to put a SSD into the second hard drive slot, but I also wanted to move the whole OS to it...
The thing is, it comes with Windows 8 factory installed, so formatting cant really be done like everything I looked at, so is there another way to transfer the whole OS to the new SSD?
It will be a 128gb samsung 840 ssd, since their pretty cheap here in Singapore...

Thanks! 😀

Software does exist to "clone" or copy an entire hard drive to another, but it requires that the drive being copied "to" (in your case, the SSD) is at least as high a capacity as the drive being copied "from" (your existing hard drive).

Clearly, a 128GB SSD has nowhere near sufficient capacity to go down the cloning or copying route, when the hard drive with Windows pre-installed on it has a capacity of 750GB.

The only way you are going to get Windows 8 on to the SSD is by buying a Windows 8 DVD and installing it from scratch, then install Asus drivers from the Asus website.

But if I were to partition the hard drive with the operating system on it to smaller than 128gb, can I then just clone it? I've partitioned my hard drive with the OS before and its not too hard...

I currently own an older laptop, where the hard drive with the OS was partitioned and I expanded the partition with the OS on it (/C Drive) and it just worked fine! Just a reboot required...

Anyway, I wont do it, since I dont want the whole OS to die on me...
Anyway to backup Windows 8 onto a CD? If I remember correctly, that function was taken out on windows 8...
