Will it remove the poor code that slowly fills memory until the system runs out? I liked FireFox but I like to keep my browsers open for long periods of time and FF cannot do this so I went back to IE, I really miss the spell check.

Well, it would be good if they speed it up. I've been using Firefox since the 1.0 days, but just recently switched to Chrome because I just finally had it with the slowness in Firefox. Stability in Firefox has become an issue, too. Although much of stability is related to flash, Chrome has solved that problem by sandboxing it. So far, you can only get that with Firefox 3.7 Alpha.

I would suggest that Mozilla make the "Home" button configurable, so that the USER can choose what that button will be - whether it be Home, Stop, Refresh, add to Bookmarks, Most Visited etc...

[citation][nom]husker[/nom]meh, I'm waiting for "super-super-duper fast", or "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fast"[/citation]

Please, stop saying pointless things and notice the home tab will be customizable as any other part of the FX interface, and that the stop button has not gone, it has just been merged with refresh, since you don't need to refresh a loading page or stop a stopped page.
RTFM, please.

[citation][nom]sliem[/nom]STOP concentrating on SPEED. It'll go as fast as user internet allows, that's it. Instead, concentrate on BUGS and SECURITY[/citation]
Speed was one of the reasons why i hated IE 7 and IE 8

It feels like a minute before it opens or closes tabs....or anything for that matter.

Sounds like they are going to start removing features and eventually start charging for their browser. I love firefox but i don't know if ill be impressed with the new layout. Why can't they make the interface like Azureus/Vuze where you can use the Vuze interface or go back to the classic interface...everybody wins.

I hope its speed is partly due to multithreading. Watching my laptop load 30+ tabs from cache taking up to 20 seconds feels a bit like booting Windows.

As for removing home and stop, nothing new. Been able to do that with 3.6. *Stop = escape key*

"Switching tabs will also be easier. Firefox 4 will allow users to just start typing the URL of the tab you want in the address bar. The browser will then offer you the option (via a drop down menu) of switching to your already open tab or navigating to a new page"

How is this faster than just clicking the tab?

I was under the impression that a lot of these features would have been implemented already. Mozilla is starting to slip, it seems.

[citation][nom]znegval[/nom]I wonder if some guy said "hey how about we make users NOT be able to close the home page?" and everyone went "wow, genius!".[/citation]

They didn't remove or add anything, they just moved it up a bit.

I also don't like the removal of the stop and home buttons, nor do I see much of a point in having permanent tabs. This is Firefox though, so you know that someone will make a plugin to change it. Customization is the reason I still use Firefox.

Instead of removing it, expand the functionality of the stop button so that it interrupts flash video loading in the background.
I sometimes visit some blog with 4 or more youtube videos on one page. Once I click on one of them it will load complete even if stop the playback and start another video. Waste of bandwidth and it slows down the whole page.

Of course I like the idea of an even faster browser, but I disagree with removing features. As 'mixedfeelings' said, I like Firefox now for the customization features and I want the choice of stop and home buttons.

Once again. The Stop button hasn't been removed. That's a mistake in the article. It has merely been merged with the Reload button. It's just as functional as having two buttons.

The home tab is being redesigned too. It's supposedly getting some new features.

Also some things that haven't been mentioned in the article are, D2D/DW, D3D, OpenGL support. Also with any luck FX 4.0 will get separate processes for each tab. 3.6.4 will already feature a separate process for the plugins which should get rid the Flash induced crashes.

There is more coming but I can't be bothered to write it all down.
